Why aren't Desmond Child and/or Billy Falcon made official members of the band?

I don't think so.

2 million per show?

...right.

I think if you just... thought about it you would realize how absurd that number sounds.

2 million a month, not per show, pardon me. And like I said before, money probably is the key factor, but maybe not. Who knows. Is it so absurd or uncommon for someone to accept less money to do something they enjoy?

I'm not trolling, this was a serious question. It's something I've often thought about, and I was wondering if other fans ever had the same thought. There's no need to get snippy about it.

Slow news day/week/year? Silly question is silly.

Joining the band would be so far beneath someone of Desmond's status at this stage of his life and career. He wouldn't want or need to. The songwriting royalties alone are more than enough to meet any financial needs as well.

Also, whilst I'm here - in response to some people's other musings in another thread - Phil X coming on board as full time member/secondary guitarist/touring musician - I think that is beneath him too. Come on, let be realistic everyone.

I'd never thought about it really. They are obviously part of the team but since they don't play any shows or feature significantly on the albums (apart from the writing) there's no reason for them to be officially part of the band as I see it.

Now Hugh not even being an official member yet is another matter entirely....!

Right.

What is Billy Falcon up to these days, though? I never was a huge fan of his solo work, but he did contribute to some of the best songs the band wrote since 2000 (pretty much all the best tracks on Bounce, for one)

His last album came out a few years ago. Actually his last two albums were really solid. His publicity team really milked the JBJ connection to get him some new listeners.

Desmond and Billy are just songwriters, not contributing musicians to the band. Why would they become members?

To become contributing musicians. To write more songs with the band. To give the band more credibility as a band that writes it's own songs. Because they like the band, are friends with the other members, and would enjoy working with them more often.
