Why aren't Desmond Child and/or Billy Falcon made official members of the band?

I guess we can't discuss this topic without people being rude and making person attacks. It's a shame; kinda defeats the purpose of a message board.

Why would songwriters be part of the band? This topic makes no sense.

Just a few points.

Mostly, songwriters aren't good musicians, nor good perfomers. I wouldn't want to see Child or Falcon nowhere near a rock stage.

Songwriters very rarely write any parts for any instruments (in this genre). The song is in it's raw form and then the band makes of it what they will. Having the songwriters telling how the songs should be played would ruin the bands input.

Bon Jovi isn't your high school band where you pick people to "be in your band" just because they're your friends. Bon Jovi is a multi-million dollar business enterprise and Jon sure as hell doesn't want anyone in it. All the other "members" are just hired people and yes, that includes Tico, Dave and Richie as well. They might have a better deal than Hugh, but Jon still owns Bon Jovi. And he'll die before having any more people sharing his money.

Desmond is a fat, middle aged, gay guy who looks just like the part. Billy Falcon is a nearly-over-the-hill country musician. How would they look on a Bon Jovi stage?

they are Songwriters and make way more Money as writers for several bands and singers than they ever could earn as musicians in one band.

Why don't stunt doubles become actors and take over the lead spots in movies?

Why don't people who dine often in their favorite restaurant just get jobs there?

Desmond Child and Billy Falcon have only ever been songwriters that help out. Desmond may sometimes lend his voice as a backing singer occassionally. Hugh isn't an officially member because the band didn't want to officially replace Alec John Such out of loyalty to him. Bobby is a session player who helps on tour.

Back in the 80s and 90s Desmond Child definately had the rock star look. I saw Bon Jovi in summer 95 and Hugh had long hair, a beret and sunglasses.. He looked cool on stage. Then he cut his hair and looked like a banker.
