Yeah, I really agree with just about everything Mimi and Val said.
I too got the impression with the last album/tour especially, that JBJ was just going on auto-pilot alot of the times. Like Mimi said, the soul, the passion, the fire, the fun, whatever you wanna call it, was just missing to a large degree. Don't get me wrong, he was still amazing and IMO still a better frontman then anyone in the business but I think it was a case of "oh right, new album is out, that means a tour, so what's for dinner then?"
I think that's maybe the reason he's so into the Philly Soul. He's said himself that he's got such a rush out of it and presumabley he got that fire and passion back.
I think we are going to see a very different Jon Bon Jovi and a very different Bon Jovi with this new album though. They seem really charged up, really ready to "retake the world" so to speak. All the new songs I've heard are truly spectacular and so much better then anything on Crush or Bounce (and remember I really like those albums). They seem to have recaptured the essence of who they are and hopefully that will allow them (and Jon especially) to recapture, like Val said, what drove them to get into music in the first place.
I truly do think the future of Bon Jovi is very bright. JBJ has said that TLFR closed out Chapter 3 of the band and I feel Jon is ready to make chapter 4 very special. Also I loved watching the Box Set DVD because you could see a different JBJ. You could see the excitment, the passion, the enjoyment and the fire back again.
