I love both the songs. I love everything about New Jersey. Maybe if you'd give the songs a second chance you'd find them more appealing. There have been a lot of songs, even some CDs, that I didn't like on first listen and grew to love when I gave them another chance.

Ride Cowboy Ride is an amazing song. The live versions of it always is a highlight. Love For Sale is also a good and fun song. 99 In the Shade is a song I can't get into though..

I think both Love For Sale and Ride Cowboy Ride show Jovi as something you rarely see; a band just having fun and not caring about the commercial aspects in the slightest.

You say you listened to less then thirty seconds of RCR. It only lasts about a minute! lol. And the vinyl, scratchy, mono sound on it I think just makes it stand out. It's not a proper song but I think a great intro into the then pounding beginning of Stick To Your Guns.

Love For Sale I admit, I prefer the numerous live acoustic versions to the recorded version. But from Jon's mouth on one of the live bootlegs of the song: "I gotta' lighten things up here, I can't be so serious." ((I guess he says lighten or loosen, Richie kinda' talks over him at that point))

Both very different songs from a band who too often forget that making music is about having fun.

Both great songs. Love For Sale is great fun, and Ride Cowboy Ride is so atmospheric, brings to mind an image of Jon and Richie playing it around a campfire. Plus, its position on the album shows that it's clearly meant to be an intro to Stick To Your Guns, so of course it fits on the album.

Both are brilliant songs. Just the guys having fun and letting their non-serious side out, and it makes for good listening.

While 'Bad Medicine doesn't do it for me (only 'cause it never gets a rest), I think there is no weak track on this superb album.

Both songs are gems that only make the album even better.

"Ride Cowboy Ride" isn't a real proper song, take it as an intro for "Stick To Your Guns". Being mono and having that vinyl sound makes it so appealing - nostalgic, vintage, in its best way. A nice little something that comes from Jon's cowboy-fetish-belly. Just two guys on acoustic guitars with a cliché, but good cowboy lyric... Gotta love it.

"Love For Sale" is just a fun song too. Something that shows their musicianship, kind of an improvised jam session rather than an overproduced million-seller à la "Bad Medicine".

--> Highlights. Give them another chance and don't overrate their seriousness.

As most are saying you have to take Ride Cowboy Ride as an intro to Stick to your guns,
Or as a lifestyle choice question RCB being one side of the fence and STYG being the other esp as the last verse of RCR is

"So you want to be a cowboy.
Ride cowboy, ride.
You want to be a big shot.
Baby, come on.
Ride, ride, ride"

And opening one from Stick to your guns are like a reply saying

"So you want to be a cowboy
Well you know it's more than just a ride"

I think its one of the more cleverer things jon & Richie have ever done
So best way to listen to it is treat them as the one song and listen loud....
Personaly i dont think there isnt a bad track on New Jesrey(overplayed yay but bad no)

I think they're pleasant throwaways and I'd rather some of them rather than the calculated crap that the albums are stuffed full of these days.

Default I LOVE Love for Sale!

The very first time I listened to Love for Sale, I had the exact same reaction to Tico's "shotgun wedding" that Jon did. I thought, "Why did Tico do that? Oh, shotgun, shotgun wedding--I get it." A split second later, Jon says, "Is that what that was?"

Which might serve as proof that they were probably drunk.
