Just to clarify, CD's around here are not 10-12 dollars unless they are in the bargain bin. They cost more than that. I would say between 15-20 dollars.
I bought CDs in the USA and they weren't more expensive than 12 or 13 Dollars. And doesn't Universal reduce the CD-prices in the USA down to 10 Dollars now? You won't get CDs for that price here.

By the way, I just read on amazon.de that TLFR UK-version with DVD will cost 55 Euros. That is more than 55 Dollars.

55 euros that's a lot!!!

And are singles really 6 euros in Germany? They're like 4-5 e in Finland.

10-12 means they were either on sale or for a band that isn't too popular. Dunno. As for the 10 dollar thing from Universal, I have yet to see it.

The prices of singles vary a little bit. They are usually around 5,45 to 6,00 Euros. Sometimes a little more expensive. Here in my city I pay 5,45 Euros in the shop where I usually buy mine. Another shop here is more expensive.

Mousebounce, the press-article about the 10 Dollar price from Universal should be here on this board somewhere. I think someone posted it here. If not here, than on Backstage.

I know you are right about it, because I read it too. What I meant was that CD's from Universal have not been reduced to 10 dollars yet. At least not from what I have seen.

Sorry to barge in, but the real reason behind different versions is money.

Japanese market gets a special version to prevent people from buying cheap imports. This way the money stays in Japan and the record company is happy.

Europe gets a different version because of copyright laws. If an American CD is played on the radio here, they don't have to pay royalties from it. If a European-made CD is played, you pay the normal fee. When you have a different Europen edition, it's easy to prove the CD was made in Europe. Also money is an issue, though not as much as it used to be, as (esp. older) CD's are often cheaper in the EU-area and are published earlier here than in the US.

I read (I think it was in Entertainment Weekly) that they would start reducing the prices during the 4th quarter which is October, November, December. That's the heaviest release time for new music because it coincides with the Christmas season which is the heaviest retail spending time. By lowering prices at the heaviest spending time, Universal hopes that it will wind up increasing sales and making their new CDs more competitively priced against other companies. If Universal's ploy is successful, they'll make up the "lost" profit by gaining more in sales figures.

We should start seeing new prices soon.

Becky

Could you tell ME where to get CDs for 10 or 12 dollars?

So I could say that it is unfair that we have to buy multiple CDs to get the songs and have to spend multiple money and the Americans only had to buy one CD with all songs which costs only a small part of what we have to pay.
Gee, we get one CD with b-sides; you people have been getting them for years. This is the first time since they stopped releasing singles here that they have ever offered us a chance to get b-sides.
