In my eyes this isn't the mark of a good drummer. Speed counts for nothing really. Drums are about power, and driving the rythem, and Tico does that for me......
All these new thrash bands have double bass drums, and fast fills, but it doesn't make them good drummers, the oposite in fact....
as long as it sounds good I'm happy! and I don't think that those new trash bands sounds good.

i know that mike but try tell that to the idiots i have to listen to when playing a gig and they say who you influenced by and when i say tico they go on about how shit he is.You me and loads others know tico is a class drummer. Personally i think double bass drum is a poxy way of getting out of using a fast single pedal. Theres only one way to play a double bass drum and its boring. Snare work and cymbal work are def more important i think. Basically TICO!

Again, absolute rubish. The topics in recent weeks have been much more to do with Tico being the real driving fource in the band, and just how great he is.... Taken that Tico Jon and Richie are the talented area, that leaves only David, who does nothing and is really dead wood, and Hugh, who isn't even really a full member.
ARE YOU PULLING THE PISS?? You wouldnt mind telling me what the following songs would be like without the best pianist in rock and roll??
Dry County
Bed of Roses
These Days
Bitter Wine
Let It Rock
Runaway

Bad Medicine
Thank You For Loving Me
Lay Your Hands On Me

ONCE AGAIN, I will reiterate that the "list" in my post. I WAS NOT STATING MY OPINIONS. I WAS REPEATING ALL OF THE DEROGATORY REMARKS I HAVE READ IN OTHER PEOPLE'S POSTS. Are we clear on that now? For God's sake, how many time's do I have to explain it?

I agree. Neurotica is one of my favorites.

But don't forget, Bon Jovi's tours are currently kicking ass, so they have to be doing something right...

But then it moved on away from that, onto David's playing.... You're question "are you pulling the piss" implied that you disagreed with my statement that David is dead wood... If you were reiterating other people's opinions on this matter then you were being very unclear....

I think they could kick harder with better songs..... Are we talking about kicking ass in the rocking, fantastic concert sence, or the selling tickets sence..... Kind of a nice link back to the origenal topic don't you think

Exactly.

Also, Bon Jovi didn't do it just as a job..... nobody really does it..... Does a writter write a play to make money, does a artist paint a picture because it makes him money????? Of cource it does, but if you don't have the passion, the drive, the devotion to your art, then your art is worth nothing! If Bon Jovi were always just a band who could'nt care less about the music, and just used it to make money, they would have never made any money!

Well not really, it all depends on how you use the double bass drums. Some like Portnoy can use them tastefully. Ditto Nick Menza from Megadeth.

I've seen the double bass used well, and I've seen it used as a noise generator..... You have to be bloody good to use it effectively, and some drummers are... The drummer with Dio did a (pushing it) ok job using it. People like Mike Macnhine (Vai) can execute it, because they're world class drummers. As can people like Ginger Baker (who was one of the first right?).... The point is, a lot of the new thrash metel bands just play fast, there is no skill, there is no emotino in teh drumming.... or rather no dynamics. A drummer without dynamics is like a guitarest without a lead, useless.

The point I was making, was that because Tico doesn't do the hundred mile an hour stuff, he's not a worse drummer. I think playing subtley, and using the dynamics is what makes a good drummer, not speed.... It's what you play, not how fast you play it...... All great rock drummers have this, from Ian Paice (the best I've seen) to Cozy Powel, to Tico, they all have the power, but veriety in how they play, and how they create the power. If you play on max speed/volume on every hit, where can you go???? AND DON'T SAY TO 11
