Default Why do ppl dislike bon jovi so much?

hey all!

ok, i just need to vent off some anger, because today at school when i went to put Bounce in the CD player in the common room, everybody moaned saying i liked "crap, 80s hair metal oldies past their sell by date by decades" (omg!!!).

Now, the ppl saying things like this are all avid musicians (they think they can play guitar, lol, Richie would simply laugh) and yet they refuse to even think that bon jovi are a talented band. just cos they write stuff like "it's my life, i ain't gonna live forever, i jus wanna live while i'm alive" they make fun of them! so, i put on KTF to let the "guitarists" hear Dry County and then TD to hear Damned, and they just did air guitar mockingly!!!

omg, it annoys me so much, Bon Jovi have seen me thru the hardest time of my life (a parent's affair, divorce, family deaths, 5th yr exams) and they are as much part of my family as my parents! i mean, i know i don't know them, yet without their music i don't think i'd have made it thru 2002...the friends i've made thru my love of the band saw me thru the hard times, and i could always find a song to empathise with me.

OK, that's me done, i just don't get why they are slagged off, they're genius and yet unrecognised by the majority!

dearie me!

hah...dun't u worry..these guys are just plain jealous...i had the similiar problem when few of my frens came by my house...i played the crush cd and they went...whats this shit?!...hehehe...well i then played prayer for them and they were pretty impressed...then i played bad name to show them richie's playing..then i showed em my live from london dvd and the crush tour...and believe me, their eyeballs nealy popped out of their sockets when they saw richie handling the talk box and tico spinning his sticks...well...that was the last they ever said a thing about bon jovi..after that, one of them in the group got hooked to bon jovi when he borrowed from me my crush tour...

Well you're post is one of the hardest question ever I think.
If the people you played Bounce to are in the same age as you it's no wonder for me that they're complaining about it because they had a different taste of music. Kids today listen to bands like P.O.D, puddle of mudd, korn and all that nu-metal shit. For them Bon Jovi is just a soft-rock band which make songs for females. And it's not surprising that they have this opinion: you just have to look at a BJ concert you'll see 20 rows of screaming females that you think you are at the concert of a ****in' boy-band.
Then you'll have to see at the most succesful BJ singles in the last few jears: Except IML only ballads(Always,This ain't a love song, Bed of Roses). Singles like Hey God, OWN or Dry County didn't sold that much so the public doesn't notice the hard-rock part of BJ, only the "heartbreaking, get the girls screaming"-ballad part.
I have no answer why they don't like IML. I get mostly positive reactions about IML(but you're friends are right, the lyrics are very simple and superficial).

So don't worry about it so much. People are stupid. in the moment BJ release "Hook me up" everybody will like them again.

Don't worry, that will change. Until last year here it wasn't 'cool' to like Bon Jovi. But some months before Everyday was released that changed. They don't all like Bon Jovi but the tastes in music became so different that there isn't a majority that listens to pop or nu metal or what ever. - And there are also many people who listen to a lot of different kinds of music. So everyone accepts what the others listen to. What else should they do? They'd have so many guys against them.
Maybe they've just grown up. But hey, that makes you different - it's your style! Anytime they have to accept that.

I have a theory about this, so let me know what you think.

Bon Jovi are in-betweeners.

They've never been goody two shoes who were always parading under the no sex, no drugs, just rock and roll banner, with no profanity, no "everyone put your hands together and praise the lord" at their gigs (lay your hands on me does NOT count!!!) Let's face it, they're no angels.

BUT!

They're not hard asses, who go around with a gun belt poking out of their leather jackets, swearing at anything that dares move in their vicinity whilst having multiple affairs and getting a new tatoo every week. They don't treat their fans like dirt, they don't constantly raise contraversial issues, and they don't fight for any cause except music.

And in this sad, sad world, my friends, the latter option is, more often than not, what is cool. And the first option draws a large audience too, but the inbetweeners who are just out there for the music are so often the ones who lose out on market as they get older, and just aren't new anymore.

I did have a list of such "Inbetweeners", but I can't remember any of them. I do think Nickleback are going to come to a similar ground to Bon jovi in 20 years though...same sort of band, y'know?

Let me know what you think!

hi laura!

actually i think you're right, bon jovi are just too nice to be popular, and don't have anything like Brittany did with the whole "oh i am a virgin honest" thing to keep the press interested. It's sad tho', cos it's the best music i've ever heard, and ppl just dismiss it cos it's not controversial or political, etc, etc!

however, that said, it does mean that being in the bon jovi loving minority feels more special!

Basically it all comes down to 'my way to live is the only right way to live' kind of attitude that many people have. You know people tend to put down things they cannot understand. Be it Bon Jovi, or Nirvana, or N'Sync. It it the same with more serious issues, e.g. a lot of religious people put down atheism, and a lot of atheists put down religion.
