Back to the topic though, I can understand why people don't like the song and to a certain extent I agree with them too (or maybe it's just empathy).

On the other hand, I like it. I can't give you an exact reason or analysis as to why I like it in the same way I can't really answer why I like IML. Neither carry the lyrical depth of older songs nor the musical diversity but there's something about them that just makes them 'likeable' and I actually think that's part of the magic of music.

Some songs just grab you and you can't put your finger on why. Both songs I would have liked had they been released by any artist not just because they are Jovi tunes. Simples!
Great post Gav.

Come on, we all know Jovi have never been the great artistic masters. But what Gav says is spot on. There's still something magic about these simple tunes. In These Days they showed they have greatness, but that's a band at its peak and sometimes that kind of inspiration only comes once in a lifetime. But they have a habit of writing damn catchy songs.

We all accept you like it. What's wrong with not liking the new song? Elvistico and Jeeper (suprisingly, considering I've argued with Jeeper before, Elvistico mainly), you're worse fans of the band than the people who don't like the new stuff, for not giving them any insentive to make better music and up their game.
Another moronic post. Just so i understand my own failings, just how do you give the band an "incentive to make better music and up their game"?

By buying concerts tickets? Good thinking.......having people come and watch them play live must really be a kick up the arse.

By downloading/buying the latest album? Ouch what a slap in the face!!!

Or is it, by moaning on a forum about how shit this or that is? Is that how YOU give the band an incentive?

I would hazard a guess that you do nothing to give the band an incentive.

If you find this thread ridiculous, don't read it, no one's forcing you. You'll probably reply though.....

No-one can really have a go at 'negative posters' for expresing an opinion, however, sometimes the way they do it is totally inappropriate e.g. by starting arguments with those who disagree. That's what is what makes me sick of some forums. I accept people might like different songs but theres no point in getting into petty arguments about it.

As far as post-2000 songs go, I agree that they aren't SWW and NJ but lets imagine they made another slippery - the band would be criticised for being stuck in the eighties and using the same formula again. When they do something slightly different (LH) they get blasted by a lot of hardcore fans for not sticking to rock. Theres no way everyone will be happy with their material. The post-2000 albums aren't all bad IMO, lots of anthemic songs (IML, Bounce, Undivided, HAND), some decent ballads (TYFLM, RSOW, MAM) and some fresh sounds (Novocaine, LH).

Overall, it seems to me that a band like Bon Jovi has reached a stage where whatever they write can be criticised for not going back to the 'glory days' of SWW, NJ, KTF or TD but discounting the last 10 years of Jovis work (almost half their catalogue!) is ridiculous. Look how many new fans the last 10 years has drawn in. This willingness to adapt to new fans, combined with amazing older stuff and an ability to but on a hell of a live show still makes Jovi one of the top bands going for me.

I haven't been here long, but I'll inject my view.

I like all the old stuff best, but thats only because the 'newest' album I own is These Days. I am still saving up for the others, so the old stuff is what I like at the moment.

They sound a lot different than what they once did, but of course they would. The band is 20 years older, you can't expect Jon to sound the same and for the music to sound exactly like it did 20 years ago.

I haven't heard this new song yet, I will likely wait for the album. I don't think its wrong of people to critisise the song if they dont like it, after all, a 'real' fan doesn't always like every single song their fave band puts out, do they? There are songs of BJ that I dont like that much, KTF being one of them, but that doesnt mean the band is crap. I love em to death, and even if the new song is shithouse, I'll still go out and buy it. Why? Because its BJ, and I want everything I can possibly get my hands on related to them.

People who complain about the band not being like they used to be are deluding themselves. Like I said, you cant expect a band to remain the same after more than a decade. They move on, the music changes, and we have to accept that.

Maybe I phrased that badly, but I don't think the band make very good music anymore (if you haven't worked that out) and lots of fans agree with me. Maybe if the band read more people saying "hang on, this isn't the best they could do" instead of "OMG this is the best song ever!!! If u don't luv this then ur not loyal 2 the band and shuld get off the forum now!!" then they might up their game a bit.

I'm talking about in the studio. They still do a good live show.

You're one of the ones who wants us to be loyal to the band. Of course we'll probaby buy it anyway.

Well, it's worth a ****ing try, isn't it? I'm not going to pretend to like the music, and at the same time I'm not going to stop discussing the music I do like.

They know lots of their fans aren't happy with their music. Why do you think they dropped the country style? Why do you think they started mixing up their set more on the European Tour? They won't admit it, but they listen to us. Obie's even talked about the negative users in JT before.

I did reply, but I won't again. I have every right to say this is a stupid topic. Someone was bound to, because it's very, very stupid.

When did i say you couldn't 'critique' this thread? All i said was if you find it so "ridiculous" then don't read it, no one's forcing you. There is a difference.

For the last time: The whole point of this thread was to ask why people who seemingly post negative things more so than positive, still post at all. I was speaking in general, NOT about one f*cking song. I wasn't for a minute suggesting anyone should love WWBTF, or that people weren't entitled to dislike it or any Jovi song for that matter.

It was just a question.

I hate nit-picking but has anyone actually said anything like this? "Best song ever"? I think not.

Maybe people just think that there are better things to do and their lives would be much the happier if they didn't resort to complaining about the petty fact (let's keep all this in perspective shall we?) that a band they follow isn't writing music EXACTLY how they want them to any more. It isn't anywhere near their greatest work but who the f*ck cares - it's good enough for about 80% of people around here and I'm sure if the band knew that they'd pleased such a percentage of their fanbase with a new release, they'd consider it a success.

One look at the poll in the other thread proves that there are more people around here that do like it than don't and yet almost every thread you see created is one criticising the new song on some level. To say the song is "crap" is a slightly skewed point of view in this regard.

How are you supposed not to read something because you find it stupid? You need to read something in order to form an opinion, so your logic isn't working anyway.

However, if you really feel the way you do then practice what you preach and don't read the negative topics either. No one is forcing you either.
