I think it's pretty common in press releases to give the quick stats. Just because we, as fans, have heard them a zillion times it doesn't mean that the people who are reading the releases know this stuff by heart. Say the AP wants to pick up the story about Who Says being #1: the rest of the info gives them a quick band history and current events to use as filler for the story.

Definetely. It's not just Bon Jovi hyping themself up, it's a comman practice. Side note, I'm really starting to like Keith, Becky.

Yeah - That's a good point.

But these so called "press releases" - Who's reading them besides us? They're only directed to email addresses who are requesting Bon Jovi information, and are only posted on bonjovi.com. It's not like Joe Schmo is logging onto to Yahoo to read the daily news and finding this "press release" there.

Know what I mean?

Actually, press releases are released TO THE PRESS too. They're going to the AP and Reuters and magazines as well. They're online and sent to us because it's a service that the record company offers to fans who sign up. They're not paying someone to sit there and write up press releases just to inform the fans of what is going on. This is part of marketing the band to media outlets.

Newspapers all over the country will get this and if they choose to run it as an entertainment interest story, they'll use the other info given in the press release to fill in the main story of Bon Jovi hitting #1 on the country charts. It's most likely to show up in Friday's and this weekend's papers that also print blurbs about the Billboard chart updates.

The history making part is about BJ being the first Rock Band to ever have a #1 single on the country charts. As for the rest it is a very successful run for a 23 year old rock band. There aren't that many of them around that can play as many shows as BJ does and sell as well as they do.

What ever the purpose of press releases, not many publications choose to use them.
Doing a Google search, it only brings up a couple of articles about this.

That's exactly my point.

I don't think I've ever seen any of these "press releases" in any other place other than through emails from bonjovi.com.

They dont necessarily have to be used word for word, they can be used as an up to date quick fix of info for journalists and the like.
Such as with, even short storys like, for example, BJ's plane skidding of the runway, almost always wrap up with a short paragraph ''Bon jovi are currently xxxx, sold xxxx, and the new tour xxx starts xx etc''

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

Define "a couple" because between google and Yahoo alerts, I've seen a many of links to articles using this today. I did a quick count and saw 36.
