Ok, fair enough, I understand what you are saying Mike
But back to the topic- this poor girl wants to know why it is so bad for her to post here that she finds the band attractive. And as predicted she was jumped on for saying that. Are female fans to believe that finding the band attractive and being serious music fans are mutually exclusive things? Men and women are different- we are programmed to react positively to attractive men and also probably programmed to like the "cheesy" romantic stuff more so than men. There are exceptions to that- some guys like the romantic stuff just as much and some women may not think the band is all that attractive but it seems like any one who posts that they like the romantic lyrics, likes the way the band looks even though they make every effort for us to notice that, and so forth are made to seem not as serious about liking the music. I just think too many here take life and themselves a little too seriously- one of the joys of life is appreciating beauty in all of its forms be it an attractive lead singer or a beautiful love song. I am a fan of all kinds of music- some of it by beautiful people, some of it not.

Because of how Bon Jovi are regarded. They are not taken seriously for their music. They are regarded as a band only girls like because of their looks. & thats something the ppl that only like them for the music resent. Their band is being placed into a category where it doesn't belong.

Hence why when ppl talk about their looks, it automatically puts us on the case.

It's funny it is that way though because as I said, I think Bruce is still pretty hot for his age (as do lots of women on the Greasy Lake board, we have a whole thread entitled chicks drooling over Bruce with pics ) but it doesn't seem to take away from his credibility. Bono has his female fans (I used to think he was sexy but lately he looks like Robin Williams to me). Female fans have been part of the rock and roll scene since Elvis first wiggled his hips. Girls screamed and fainted for the Beatles. I am not so sure that it is the fact that women find them attractive which hurts them as much as their hair band beginnings. Even though it was the style then, neither Bruce nor Bono broke out wearing spandex or using Aqua Net (though Bono had one hell of a mullet). I think at least here in the States when you talk to other music fans who are not Bon Jovi fans it is those beginnings they can't get past- at least when I talk to other Bruce fans who laugh at Bon Jovi. They have never heard of anything beyond the 80's days and I am trying to do some education over there. Anyway, I think in Europe Bon Jovi are not so much a "girly band" as they are here in the States but I think the credibility factor comes more from the whole 80's pop metal scene beginnings.

Anyway, why can't we just accept that if we choose to spend time here appreciating the music is probably a given- none of us want posts fixated on Jon's looks (though those seemed to be generated by those irritated by his smile lately ) but if someone occasionally references their looks while reviewing a show for example I don't think it is a big sin. And I promise not to start a Chicks Drooling over Bon Jovi thread After all I do have Backstage

In France they're more seen as a teenage girly band than hair band because the few hits they had there were ballads from after the "hair days", and often reduced to Jon.
So a lot of people and critics in France actually do not even consider their music before judging them.
I don't feel I can really blame them for it because Jon or the whole band never did anything to prevent this.

Actually it's not as bas as you are saying. In genral, Rock fans know BON JOVI are a band. Most of them know Richie Sambora and they know Bon Jovi were a Hair Band. And i don't see it as bad being part of that era since it's my fave type of music.
In terms of critic they still suffer from that.
But the GIRLIE BAND image is because of Jon, definetly.

I mean in the 80s 90% of the hair band leaders were good looking.
Just take Brett Michels, Vince Neil, Mark Slaughter,Sebastian Bach or Jani Lane...still, none of the bands they led have ever benn considered music for girls. So you are wrong jedijovi.
