I think comparing his voice now to his voice in his youth only shows an obvious improvement in his singing. He's always had natural talent and a magnificent range, especially for a man. But he didn't have the training and that rawness is what makes those earlier albums sound different. It's obvious in listening to him sing now that he has more control and knows how to fully utilize his incredible instrument without damaging it. I could listen to the man sing all day long. His sounds amazing!

I'd already notice that JBJ has many different voices. My mom listened to Please come home for christmas, and she didn't want to believe it was Jon's voice.
I don't wanna say that Jon's voice has gone weaker, because maybe Everyday sounds rough, thank you for loving me, does absolutely not.
So I think Jon does it on purpose, because he likes to sing different. Compare These Days and Destination = big difference. However, I prefer Jon's These Days voice, because that's a special voice. Destination is not...

Give Jon a break! A 40-year-old man is not able to sing like someone in his twenties. I like his "new" voice.

Jon's voice has definitely changed over the years. On the Power Station years album he sounded strange, his voice was very high. He continued to improve his voice through each album up to These Days. He stopped hitting the high notes on Prayer after the new Jersey tour but he could perform all the other songs flawlessly.

A big difference came with Destination Anywhere. He once said someone suggested to him that he should sing with a lower voice. He also took up smoking at that time. Getting older and smoking caused his voice to become weaker. In just five years time (1995-2000) you could hear a huge difference in his voice. Crush tour was one of the worst tours. Zurich concert should never have made it to the DVD.

OWN tour was somewhat better and we could see some of the older songs being performed again. I was pleasantly surprised with the SBE performance except for Prayer and Everyday. Everyday was very weak, like he was whispering and Prayer gave him big problems, especially the part before the solo.

On the bright side, he did perform one of the best versions of Wanted in a long time. I don't buy into that whole aging thing. I think cigarettes are to blame for his weak voice but I don't know how to explain his voice improving after Crush. His voice should be the same it was in the These Days era. He knew how to use his voice and not struggle too much. Wembley 95 will probably remain the best live rock performance of all time. IMHO, of course.

Yeah Jon does have a magnificent range for a man. If I ever took part in a competition I wouldn't sing a Bon Jovi song because I can't get as high as Jon. The only song I would be able to manage would probably be The Queen Of New Orleans because he sings it rather deap. When I first bought the Destination Anywhere CD I was very surprissed that Jon was singing the way he did on the album. Yes, Jon does have a few different ways of singing, and I think thats quite good.

from what I've heard, Jon's vocals on Bounce are mindblowing. If you say his voice has gotten weaker, I say your ears have gotten waxier! Talk about an amazing range and variety of styles of singing. Jon's one of the best singers ever, and his admiration for other great singers shows in his own skill. He can very much still hit those notes, but really now, who wants to hear him "ooooooo"-ing for Runaway like that again? LOL! let's just say Jon's voice maturity has come a long, deep way since 1983- and it's fantastic. Yikes, you should hear some of his earliest demos....at first I thought it was a scam and that it was a girl singing because even I could sing like her/him!

Has anyone ever stopped to think that during some of the concerts he might have been sick. I mean when your sinuses are acting up doesn't it affect your voice? I have heard that Jon has allergies, I'm not sure if that is true or not, but I am sure he catches a cold ever now and then.
And also, I think constantly hitting those high notes night after night would hurt his voice, so in effort to protect it, he CHOOSES NOT to hit them.
Anyhow, I'm sure he has if good days and his off days. He is only human after all. Oh yeah...IMHO I think Jon's voice is sounding better.

Yes, Jon does have allergies and quite bad allergies at that. He's always commented on that. He has summed it up by saying he was allergic to "earth." Different climates can be hell for him, but he continues with the shows anyway. The only time they've cancelled a show due to "illness" was when Tico had a sprained wrist in Australia in 1995. What would fans rather see happen--Jon goes on with the show or because some people are going to nitpick his vocal performance, he just reschedules. Hey, it's not skin off his teeth to come back later... it's only inconvenient for the fans who've taken time off work and made travel arrangements for a show.

Good point Becky- Aerosmith canceled a few last year due to voice problems and so did Stevie Nicks. Fans were disapointed even if they could reschedule. Jon knows how to take care of his voice now since the Slippery Days and he gives it his all every time he goes out.

We should get a FAQ Forum for questions like

- Is Jon's voice getting weaker?
- How did you become a BJ fan?
- How many concerts have you been to?
- How come Becky is the first one to reach the Bounce status and what happens when she hits the next level? Will she be banned then because there's no album left?
