I agree with what you're saying, but I'm not speaking in generalities. I'm talking about this song specifically with RD's examples. They're not just a hair off from each other, there had to have been a conscious effort to slow down the song.

what exactly is a click track? do most bands use them?

It's just a little click in the band member's in-ear-monitors (or at least the drummer's) to keep the tempo and keep everything in sync. Yes, most bands do use them.
