After the industry became a commercial pop mafia (by the early 90īs) I just donīt trust any of these things. Awards are completely made up and I wouldnīt be surprized if the record labels had influence on the matter. I got a couple of friends in the music biz and that is what they told me once.

Exactly. - It's all about image & what is "in". BJ will never be "in" 'cos they started in the 80's when they were "just another hair band"

But I don't care if they get a grammy or not. That has never influenced my liking of them. Its all about me thinking their music is great,

Mike

You know what... I realized before I hit the age of 10 that the Grammys were a joke. I remember spending the night at my great aunt's house when I was young and we watched the Grammys. It was in the early 80's, the year that Michael Jackson won like 8 awards or something. Even then I thought to myself that it was a silly notion that any ONE person could do something worthy of all those awards. It seemed to me then that they Grammys were a stupid award, a popularity contest, or auctioned off to the highest bidder. At that age I could not have cared less about the music industry or any artist. Now that I've learned more about the industry and pay more attention to the Grammys, my opinion hasn't changed much. LOL

I will have to disagree with that, Becky. The Grammy Awards werenīt always a joke. It became a joke as MTV got power and by the time Sony Music bought Epic Records, CBS Records and so on...

Michael Jacksonīs Thriller is undoubtly a masterpiece, even for those people in the biz who now criticize him to death. It simply inspired almost everyone out there, no matter what kind of music people are playing. Just an example... Sheryl Crow used to be one of Michael Jacksonīs backing vocals at that time. Look where she is now. Well... the thing is that music changed a lot, and now the industry is a complete bunch of stereotypes and image-driven commerce instead of good art. Musicīs history is being told wrong. Elvis didnīt create rock and roll. He became popular and helped rock and roll become too. So did the Beatles. But what people forget or donīt know is that the rock and roll roots comes from the black people, who turned the blues into rock and roll and r&b. Today we got several genres of music which are all descendant from the black origins. Thatīs what Michael Jackson is currently trying to make everyone see. But hey... media also changed. Theyīre not interested in that. They want money. So they create dirty and "cool" pop artists in order to get their bills paid and expand their global presence.

So, I come to the conclusion that not only the music industry and the Grammy Awards are a joke nowadays. The whole media is among this kinda garbage. I am not saying everyone out there on MTV and in the press is bad. No, Iīm just trying to make my point on the biz matter. There are artists who donīt need that. There are those who do. Why doesnīt Elton John sell like he used to? What about Michael Jackson? Letīs remember that the king of popīs last album was considered a flop by the press. But it sold over 9 million copies worldwide with no massive promotion. Hasnīt Crush reached something like that? OK, now we know that the industry is made of stereotypes and not actual facts.

Michael Jackson said this year "good art never dies" in a response for all the crap Sony has made with the promotion of his last album. Now it seems theyīre willing to pay for his comeback (cause heīs now a free agent) and fix their mistakes, without Tommy "Devil" Mottolaīs hand. Hope it works out and hope he uses Sony for a goodbye promotion. This is all sh*t, I go insane when I read something like this, and I shall say my music taste is also very far from the mainstream, so very few exceptions.

Well... donīt worry if Bon Jovi donīt get any Grammys. If they do, great. If not, great too. As long as they keep doing good music thatīs all what matters to me.

Thanks for reading
