Default Why Undivided Was Not Released As First Single

Thanks to Spong 13 on Backstage for this:

"This was on my local radio station this morning. They do a smal MusicNews segment and I taped it and copied it for everyone on here to enjoy!

WHY UNDIVIDED WAS NOT RELEASED AS FIRST SINGLE:
JON: I wasn't going to jump on the soap box and try to take advantage of that situation like that. I think I should be shot if I'd do that. The last thing I'd do would jump on the 9/11 celebrity band wagon. Anything I'd do the telephone, concert for New York, local NJ stuff. Was from my heart and only for that reason for the local community that i live in and am part of. I couldn't see releasing Undivided as the the first single. Would seem like it would be taken out of context. "

Notice though, that he does say FIRST single, which means it could still happen. And if U2 can do it, why not Bon Jovi?

I think the second single from their upcoming greatest hits album is called 'The Hands That Built America'

I hate to say this but U2 is the best example of a band that used 9/11 as a mean to make themselves more Famous.
I remember how antiamerican they were.

I hate sound a bit cynical because I do think Jon was sincere in his answer but you have to wonder what effect Bruce Springsteen's album The Rising had on the decision not to go with Undivided first. I think it could be one of two things. Either Jon truly feels this way which would mean he can't be too happy either about all the Bruce Rising hubub and hype (and believe me there are even some Bruce diehards who wish he didn't focus so much on 9/11- after all will a 9/11 album, even a brilliant one hold up over the years). Or maybe Jon did not want Bon Jovi to look like they were ripping off Bruce- an accusation they have heard enough in their career. Anyway, I can see his point if either is the case and am glad it wasn't the first. The theme of Everyday which is moving upward and onward is a fresher perspective and it made sense to release that one first. I do hope though that sometime later in the album cycle we will see Undivided as a single- it is an awesome song and I love what it has to say.

Yeah, okay, but then I would release Undivided as the second single, and they don't want to release it at all (stupid folk, why didn't they release Just Older on crush????, why can't they release Bounce and the distance. Nooooo, a true popsong is beong released. Great !
