BTW, Seb have you ever listened to Creed? Cause I went through a MAJOR Creed phase way back when, and The Distance does not sound like a Creed song.
I don't think it sounds like a creed rip off either.

Seb mistakingly thinks that if you use similar chords and tune your guitar down a bit that this makes you ''rip off'' Creed's style. Thats a load of bollox. Yes, the guitar is slightly reminescent of 'Higher' by Creed, but 95% of songs ever written are bound to be ''ripp offs'' of something else withinn that genre by this defination then.

And one of Supersonics favourite bands is Oasis....'nuf sed really. The Beatles anyone?

Aloha !

I'm not saying ripping off other bands is bad, absolutely not. But this song was written at a time that Jon B. took great pride into writing his own songs, in every interview he went on and on about how they wrote their own stuff and stuff like that.

Everything that's on Bounce is nicked from other artists. Creed, Linkin' Park, Elton John, Bob Dylan. Jon tried to put it all in one record but failed. It's not because it's the downtuning, it's the sound Jon went for, and since I ****ing despise Creed with their sound and songs I ****ing despise The Distance as well. It's a lame attempt at riding the Creed hype that was going on back then.

And Noel Gallagher always admits it every time when he's ripped off another band. He's known for it and accepts and admits it every time.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I would agree that Bounce really is a melting point of different musical styles, but it isn't to such an extent that it makes me dislike the songs for this reason. Crush also has a hell of alot of different types of songs on there - Say it isnt so, two story town, Crash, Mystery are all clearly heavily influenced by other artists/genres and are a very different souund for a band like Bon Jovi. It keeps the album interesting for me, and like i said a few weeks back, variety like this keeps me coming back compared to an allout 3chord rock album like an early ACDC album.

Anyway enough of me blabbering, the simple thing would be to just accept that you hated creed, therefore you hated the guitar and chorus style of The Distance. Which is fair enough.

I'd leave JBJ's influences and desire to explore new musical sounds and directions for another discussion.

I agree with you about Bounce to an extent, but I still don't think The Distance sounds anything like a Creed song.

Take it or leave it really, there are much better songs on Bounce.

Undivided, Bounce, Everyday & Hook me up all sound better live IMO.

I like the song and wouldn't mind hearing it live. If they are going to play something off Bounce though, I'd rather hear Undivided or Joey personally.

The Distance was good live back in '03. It wasn't great or a higlight for me. I enjoy the lyrical content but live, and to a certain extent on the album, the song sounds muffled and strained.

I like it. I don't love it, but I like it. Wouldn't mind hearing it live, at all. But it wouldn't be a wow moment, either.
