Default your opinion about.....

hi everyone...this thought went in my head after i read richie and jon words about new arraNGEMENTS of the songs....almost every bon jovi single songs were written by jon, richie, jon and richie, jon richie and desmond ecc...there are just few co wrote with david, one with tico and anyone with alec.....so in your opinion which s the "weight" of the other members of the band apart jon and richie about BON JOVI 'S MUSIC?
do you think they would sound different if instead of david tico and alec there would be other people or it would be the same?
i think jon and rchie write the songs and say to the other somehing like "ehy tico try to give me this kind of grove" or " david yuo have to follow the guitar melody"...and you?
basically i mean that even if they put their creavity into their music they don 't make the difference.......or not?

You do realise Alec hasn't been with the band for almost 10 years now?

I don't know since I never saw Alec live and you don't know what songs on the albums are played by Alec and what by Hugh. But the people who know Alec live, is it a difference since Hugh plays the BJ-songs live?

I'm not a musician so I can't really judge.

OF COURSE I DID......i was talkin' about the band and havin' him played on 6 album i mentioned him as a band member..can you get this?
and while hugh is more like a "professional musiian who record an tour with the band" than a band member or a bass player who work into the songwrting process, think it's more appropiately talk about alc than hugh...can you get this THE WALRUS'

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic or anything, I just honestly didn't know if you knew or not, it looked like you didn't. To answer the question, I'd say the departure of Alec proves that BJ would be BJ with any bass player

Hugh basically played everything from Slippery onwards and live Alec played whatever Hugh played on the records. I don't think Alec was much of a player, he just played what he was told.

As for others, each member writes his own parts. Hugh composes bass lines, David comes up with keyboard arrangements and sounds and Tico works the beats. I'm sure they could manage with anybody playing, but Jon & Richie need the band to sound like Bon Jovi. Just listen to their solo albums. No Bon Jovi sound there.

maybe in the writing of the lyrics jon and richie are the most important, but I think Dave, Hugh and Tico play the way the think it fits to the music.
saw jon live solo before I was such a huge Dave fan I thought it wouldn't be much diffference but it was, jon alone gets boring if you saw the 5 guys togehter before

Bass players come and they go, they can be replaced without much difference to the band. So can drummers, although when you start changing guitarists or singers things start to go a bit pear shaped. You only have to look at what happened to Aerosmith when Joe Perry stopped playing with them for a while, and Van Halen haven't been the same since David Lee Roth decided to take off.

I really do think Hugh is a very good bassist, and Tico a very good drummer, and they would both be hard to replace, but it can be done without much change in the quality of the music. It may cause arguments within the band, as the guys may not gel as well together, but drummers and bassists, don't tend to write much, they just tend to chip in a little or pick up their tabs (written by others), learn how to play in time, and thus do their job for the band.

Ok now Dave. I think he in Bon Jovi is irreplacable and I think keyboardists have to be creative and find the right melodies for the songs. Dave is a classical piano player who writes his own songs/melodies, as we all know from his solo albums. Therefore I think he is very important when it comes to writing music. As you probably know he co-wrote In These Arms, and that is one of my favourate BJ songs of all time.

In my opinion it is mainly Richie and Jon who write the songs, with a little help from the others. I think Dave will come up with melodies and they'll try to fit the write ones in, or maybe Jon or Richie might say "why not try something like this....". Tico will probably provide the right beat for the song, or he may receive suggestions on what kind of beat to play, and then he can build on it himself, and make it sound better (as all good drummers should be able to do). I think Hugh may get the bass parts written for him by Richie, or he may co-write them with Richie, or maybe even Jon (when he plays rhythm guitar is some songs). I definately think that the guitarist/s and bassist need to be on the same wavelength in order to create the write mix for the song.

On the whole they probably write their songs as a band, buts as I have said Jon and Richie probably do the bulk of the writing and they get Dave, Tico and Hugh to chip in a little.
