I agree with of what Rob said(except the Van Halen thing ). Jon and Richie might write the most of a song, but when you get in the studio to record a song changes while the recording I guess, so the whole band puts in something.

To answer the question, I'd say the departure of Alec proves that BJ would be BJ with any bass player
Since Alec was in the band they were a hard rock act. After his departure they turned into a Soft/pop-rock joke.

Hugh basically played everything from Slippery onwards and live Alec played whatever Hugh played on the records. I don't think Alec was much of a player, he just played what he was told
Would you show me some proove?

Think again. Hugh is a great player, a session musician and he certainly writes his own parts. Many guitarists THINK they know how to play the bass and tell (bad) bassplayers what to play, but real basists know their stuff and compose their own lines.

Hi Hugh,
Just like to say I say you and the Bon Jovi guys in Wolverhampton this year, great show! My question is, who would you say has been the best artist/band to work with? Who's given you the most freedom on records/live?
Thanks,Will

Thanks Will. Wolverhampton was a lot of fun. I'm glad the rain held off!To answer your question, I'd have to say that Bon Jovi has been the best band to work with. After 20 years of working together, we're family. Basically, everybody has input on what everyone else plays. I have total freedom to play what I want.

Then, I had read a book about
Bon Jovi a few weeks ago and I read that you did NOT play on every studio album. But from other fans I hear that you DO. I'm a bit confused now. What is the truth? Did you play on the albums or did Alec did? (I'm sorry if it is a bit painful to ask...? but I just have to know) Thanks and lots of love, Always, Marjolein

I didn't play at all on 7800 F

The only difference I've noticed live is with backing vocals. It seems to me that Alec had a higher vocal range than Hugh. Otherwise, I never noticed a huge difference in live performance. Actually, I take that back. They've gotten better over the years (I've seen at least one show from every tour since New Jersey). But I think that's just from them all growing better as musicians.
