Seconded. They couldn't have been any nicer. Anyone who has the chance should do so.

I presume this is the school where Jon Bon Jovi went? Can I ask what the big deal is with standing in front of the sign? I don't understand the fascination with little things like this, maybe it's just me.

Some fans just see this as a pilgrimage... I guess.

If I was visiting the area I'd rather go into NYC and do stuff there. I've never seen the point in visiting such random places, just because a celebrity once schooled there or lived there or whatever.

I wouldn't care either. And didn't when I went to NYC last summer... Hell I wouldn't even care for autographed stuff or backstage passes, even when I was more into this band... but I guess some fans just go beyond loving just the music & musician, they're fan of the man in a sort of semi-religious way that makes them want to somehow walk in his footsteps.

But that's just how I see it...

But what would you do in NYC? Go look at the Empire State Building / Times Square etc.? Why? Because they're big? Because it's what tourists do in NYC? Rationality and reasoning doesn't really play a part in sightseeing, people just go see the things they want to see because they, personally, want to

Except the view from the Empire State or Times Square at night are just amazing... I don't believe you can really compare the two.

Do fans that go see that sign of Jon's school actually say to themselves "Man, this is just incredible!" ? I wouldn't think so. I don't think they're wanting to be impressed, they just want to "check stuff out".

There's a difference between wanting to visit landmarks, and visiting random/arbitrary places just because a celebrity once went there. I've just never understood celebrity culture. I enjoy the music that Bon Jovi make, but I really couldn't give a shit where they went to school or whatever else. Going there doesn't somehow make you a part of it, and since the band aren't there anymore it isn't bringing you closer to them. At least with tourist attractions there are things to do, activities.
