I can't see how people can't get it...

Even if you don't want to do it yourself, it's hardly hard to work out is it? Yes, I would love to go there, and yes, I would think to myself "this is amazing" Not because "OMG Jon Bon Jovi has been here, and he's hot, and he's a Rockstar so he's better than everyone else...holy shit do you think he's had sex behind this sign?!"(hey, it happens) But because I love Bon Jovi, and because they've been apart of my life since a kid. However sad or whatever that may sound, they have, and they're special to me.

And to go there would be special to me, because it's a part of their history...I see it as a part of Bon Jovi's history. And to say it's not a landmark is silly. It quite clearly is to A LOT of fans. Like Paul said, it doesn't have to be in one of the top ten landmarks or something, to be considerd as a landmark to a lot of people. And going to a public toilet because "Jon Bon Jovi may have pissed there" is hardly the same as going to his old school...

There's nothing even to work out, debate or analyze here. It's SIMPLE.

Not really, no. I enjoy watching films for what they are, but am not bothered about why such a thing was created, or where it was shot really. I'm obviously just in a very different mindset to, seemingly, most other people.

I'm an introvert, so I wouldn't like to be on a stage in front of so many people. As for people wanting to do it - most just seek that fame. They have no real talent or ambition, and certainly don't have the drive to work hard to get it and deserve it - they just want fame and fortune.

So you can understand why anyone, anywhere, does anything? It's easy enough to say "They like it, so that's that" but I'm trying to understand the reasoning behind it. I'm curious to know what people get out of visiting a school or a bar, just because someone once performed there. I've been in the Cavern Pub and the Cavern Club in Liverpool, places where the Beatles played, and I didn't feel anything 'special' about them. There are autographed guitars and posters and all kinds, and for people who like The Beatles and enjoy the nostalgia maybe it's interesting - but that's what I'm trying to understand about it all; Why is it interesting?

Shit, I've tried to explain but I can't. I guess you haven't felt the same kind of appreciation/love/whatever the word may be, for a band/artist. And I don't know if I'm able to explain it to someone who just doesn't feel it. That's not meant to be an attack or anything, I just genuinely don't know if it's easy to exaplain...I think it's something you just have to either get, or don't. For some people it's more than simply "Oh, they make music I enjoy" For some people it goes deeper, because maybe that band has been a part of their lives for like...ever, and...I'll get back to you when I can explain properly...

On the simple side of things, it's interesting because it is a part of Bon Jovi's history. That's got to be easy to understand, right? And with other people, they probably were just near there and thought hey, why not. And it's probably silly analyzing it. I don't know...my brain is fried today.

OK - let me tell you all a story. There is a woman on the Greasy Lake board who is from South America. She doesn't have much money and she has a 13 year old daughter. Bruce's music has meant so much to her in her life. Most writers tell about what they know so Bruce talks about Asbury Park and the clubs there and the boardwalk in his songs.

Ever since 2003 when the last big E Street Band tour was over this woman saved every penny of her money. This past summer she and her daughter finally made it to "the promised land" and yes - that's the way she put it. She didn't have enough money to rent a car so she took the bus to Asbury Park and to Freehold to see what her longtime idol was writing about.

She also attended the 3 concerts at Giants Stadium and saw a live Bruce show for the first time in her life. She had only heard the albums until then and had never seen him live.

And as far as she was concerned it was the trip of a lifetime. She took her 13 year old daughter with her so that she would have some clue about life outside the poverty that they knew in South America (Argentina actually).

This was a lifelong goal for her and she finally made it. I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with her story. She's not a stalker or a sicko - she is a lifelong fan who wanted to see the source of all those inspirational songs that kept her sane sometimes.

Shit. You've hit the nail on the head. I wanted to explain it like this, but it just made me sound like an obsessive psycho the way I put it. And people will prbably still think I am. But **** it, I'll put it anyway...

Sometimes, if you haven't had a great time of things, certain songs by a certain artist will mean so much more than a lot of can understand. Sometimes, people go through things/have problems that are isolating that they needed those songs. Bon Jovi for me had that something, their songs spoke/speak to me like no others. A few artists being close, but just not quite matching up for whatever reason. And yeah, they've kept me sane at times.

I remember sitting there when I was going through something ****ed-up, and listening to Someday I'll Be Saturday Night on repeat over and over again, and felt I could relate to certain lyrics and they also gave me hope. Probably sounds crazy, but Bon Jovi gave me some hope. Sad huh? So maybe you'd have to have "been there" to appreciate how a band can speak to you. And obviously they'd always then be special, so going to their landmarks would mean something more special than to some other people.

But I'm not crazy.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't say there was anything wrong with it either - we all do what we want. All I'm trying to say is that I obviously don't 'get' it. Certainly there are songs which mean a lot to me, but what they mean to me might be very different to what they meant to the writer, so personally I wouldn't get anything out of visiting places like that. Obviously a lot of people do so I'm probably in a minority - think about places like Graceland - just that I was trying to understand, but it seems I can't and probably never will.
