Same with John Mayer, my dude. He has two main musicians, Pino Palladino on bass and Steve Jordan on drums. And they only show up when Mayer does trio work. They're still session musicians.
Granted, he uses session musicians that are all way more talented than any member of Bon Jovi by a landslide. These session musicians do not know the entire John Mayer repertoire.
