It says, but it doesn't say where it is leading...
Like Jon sings: "I don't know where it's going, we all know where it's been." End of disgussion, you can read my final words about this when you reel few post back...
For me it is all about advertisement.

You may not like it but that's the way it's done for EVERY band not just Bon Jovi.

The fact is the HAND tour was in the top 3 tours for the year. Doesn't that say enough about popularity?

All true.

And I'm moving this thread to Tour Discussion.

it isn't the end of the discussion because you say it is. every point that everybody else has made has been more viable and holds more weight than your own.

I think some good reasons have been given already, but there's also a part due to marketing. Some North American shows were also tagged sold out when they were still selling tickets at the venue entrance 20 minutes before the opening act.

I think promoters look at how sales are going and forecast a few weeks ahead what they believe will happen. When you've sold 90% of your tickets for sure you're making enough profit to say it's sold out when it's not, and can make good promo for the next venues on the tour.

What happens often is they call a show sold out 2 months before. Then just two weeks before the show they say there are extra tickets available because of stage modifications. Could be believable if it didn't happen for every big band/artist that sells well.

And those are often the very best tickets because they're the ones that were reserved for radio station winners or for the band/promoters/press to use at their discretion. They weren't used so they go back into the ticket pool.

of course bonjovi.com are lying. it's a promo gag. I mean tickets sold quite well, the hardcore fans who check out the website are a minority anyway so the average fan who goes to see the concert will think it was sold out. it's not too far from the truth and it would look bad if they said 6 /18 shows sold out . Of course there's a difference between actually SOLD OUT shows and shows where you have 5000 left-over tickets, and of course bonjovi.com are lying, but for what reason in the world would they not?
