I doubt 2005 for one reason: plans change. They always do. They project an idea of what they have in their heads, but it rarely works out that way. Look at 1996: the plan was for Richie's CD to come out in August 1996, Jon's to come out in August 1997 and the band to be back together in 1998. Jon finished DA, so his got bumped up to June 1997; Richie dillydallied on his until March 1998. The record company got sold and they purposely delayed the album until things settled; the producer died. But, it all worked out for the best for them.

Jon will definitely do at least one movie--the one he wrote. Richie is talking about his greatest hits CD. Still, we're getting a CD this year. We're getting the box set next year. So, it's not like we'll be starving for product. This looks GREAT compared to the other breaks they've taken.

On the other hand, just because Jon made the statement of seeing them again in 2005, doesn't mean he's planning to see the Giant's Stadium crowd at the end of a tour in 2005. They may want to play GS first or somewhere in the middle.

Why should we all hope for something like that?

I think the guys should take as much time off as they need, both from touring and from making new Jovi albums (excluding the acoustic album and the box set, I'm talking about new Bon Jovi studio albums). And I'm not saying that just because of personal reasons, because I wouldn't be able to see as many shows as I wanted to if they decided to get back on tour again next year. :P Hell, if I can't find a job ASAP, I won't be able to see them in 2005 either. But that's beside the point here.

What I mean when I say that the guys should take off as much time as they need is that while some or possibly even most of the (s)low sales of Bounce can undoubtedly be attributed to downloading and mp3 piracy, the album itself contained elements that made me think that the guys should really think long and hard before they start working on the next studio album. They should think who they want to work with (read: ditch Luke Ebbin) and what kind of music they want to make and play (do they want to become another Aerosmith with albums full of syrupy ballads, or would they rather aim at being a rock band and try to walk in the footsteps of for example Bruce). Bounce definitely had its moments too, initially I even thought it was way better than Crush. But in hindsight, I can see that most tracks on the album are seriously over-produced (just listen to all that orchestra stuff in the background, and the computer stuff too)... And for a band that wants to be a credible rock band, the album contained way too many ballads and mid- and slow-tempo songs, and too few real rock songs. Out of the 12 songs on the album, 4 (Undivided, Everyday, Hook Me Up and Bounce) can be classified as up-tempo rock songs, 4 as mid-tempo songs (The Distance, Joey, Misunderstood and Love Me Back To Life) and 4 as ballads or slow-tempo songs (AALY, Right Side Of Wrong, You Had Me From Hello and Open All Night). IMO, that kind of a mix just doesn't work if you want to hold on to your rock band status. That's why I think the guys should take a lengthy creative break and contemplate their thoughts and ideas about the band and the music they want to play.

Although I have to admit that being classified as a "rock" band doesn't necessarily mean that most of the songs on an album should be up-tempo rock songs. Like HIM and several other bands have recently proven, it's also possible to be "rock" and "hard" and "heavy" and even "metallic" without an up-beat tempo in every song. To achieve that, you just have to ditch most of the ProTools & other computer stuff and build up a rocky (or metallic) sound with the bass and several guitars. In other words, you have to make it as organic as possible. And THAT is what I personally would like to hear from Bon Jovi too.

Since the Acoustic album is being released this fall, and the Box Set is being released next spring/early summer, I don't see the next studio album coming up until 2005. Plus, Jon has a couple of movies to do, I'm sure. But what Jon said was, "We'll be back in 2005"... you could interpret that to mean "back on the scene" or "back at Giants". I think (and I am being optimistic) that their tour will start in late 2005 and carry over into 2006.

To me seems possible...
I've been having this discussion on Backstage.

Acoustic Album November....

Then the boxset has to be released sometime soon. My guess is it'll be released a similar time to Bounce next year. They can't leave it any later than that surely. That gives them a year off for Jon to fanny around with Movies.... With a box set around the same time as Bounce - they're surely gonna tour for this. So tour starts similar time to Bounce tour....

Mike, just because Jon said at Giants "see you back here in 2005", it does NOT mean that it's actually going to happen... Cause truth to be told, he tends to say whatever comes to his mind on stage. He's not necessarily lying as such, he's just saying whatever pops up in his head to please the crowd. Many of us have experienced that first hand, believe me... :P And even if they WERE thinking right now that they'll probably be touring again in 2005, ANYTHING can happen between now and then. Just like with everything else in life, plans change in the Bon Jovi camp too. Especially in the Bon Jovi camp, actually.

I'm personally not expecting the next full-fledged tour to take place before 2006 or so. If it happens before that, great (or not so great if I don't have the cash to go to gigs), but I'd rather be surprised that way than the other way round.

Yeah - but my plan does sound feasible

Not if they really are taking a two year break, and jon wants to concentrate on his acting.
he needs to concentrate on his acting
