I wonder how they're planning to pull that off. I assumed that the O2 would be off-limits to Azoff's clients. After Azoff allegedly made performing at the LA Forum a requirement for playing MSG, the Staples Center owner, Phil Anschutz, retaliated by tying the O2 to the Staples Center. Or that was the last I heard about it, anyway. This was published July 2017, so things could have changed since then and I just didn't catch the updates.

...Anschutz has decided he won’t stand for this tying arrangement between the Forum and MSG and issued a decree late last week that he was going to institute a similar arrangement whereby acts that skip Staples Center (presumably for the Forum) cannot play his O2 Arena in London, sending out a lengthy statement in which the company announced “after exhausting all avenues, our hand has been forced by MSG’s actions and AEG will now coordinate bookings between The O2 arena and Staples Center to level the playing field for all.“..

That's very interesting.

They did play O2, MSG and Staples during the Lost Highway and The Circle tours - was it OK back then because they hadn't started swinging their dicks at that point?

U2 did play MSG and Forum in 2015, BUT also played O2.

The problem is that Matt can't confirm or deny anything until they are officially announced. He probably knows the full schedule at this point.

My gosh would they just announce the dates already. My friends are tired of me putting off a trip with them, because I’m waiting for dates.

I think that pretty much sums it up.

This article indicates that the bad blood could go back as far as 2008, beginning with a failed merger attempt; but the opening shots in this particular battle were apparently fired in Nov of 2016.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ne...calates-996041

Quote:
On Nov. 23, 2016, 10 days after William Morris Endeavor worldwide head of music Marc Geiger confirmed that his client Neil Diamond would play two August 2017 dates at the AEG-owned Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, he emailed the arena's vice president of booking and events with bad news: He was moving the show to The Forum in nearby Inglewood, Calif., an arena owned by Azoff MSG Entertainment, after "getting squeezed" by one of its partners, longtime music power broker Irving Azoff...

Quote:
...Industry insiders note that the seeds of the feud may have been sewn around 2008 when Azoff was the CEO of Ticketmaster. He and Dolan approached Anschutz about merging the ticketing company with MSG and AEG to take on Live Nation. The negotiations collapsed, resulting in bad blood among the parties (and in 2009, Azoff emerged as the CEO of a merged Live Nation and Ticketmaster). Leiweke’s relationship with Anschutz also deteriorated in the wake of his abrupt departure from AEG in 2013...
I've been following Leiweke since he partnered with Jon in the Bills bid because his name just keeps popping up. Leiweke is the man responsible for naming Bon Jovi to the Toronto ACC Hall of Fame in 2013. But just prior to that, he had been Phil Anschutz's right-hand man and CEO of AEG Live, which promoted Bon Jovi tours.

Currently, Leiweke is Azoff's partner in the Oak View Group. They put together the Arena Alliance, where most of the shows on Bon Jovi's last tour were played.

OAK VIEW GROUP BEGINS WITH BON JOVI
By Dave Brooks

Posted Wednesday, September 21, 2016

Earlier this week, Tim Leiweke unveiled the 22 venues that had signed up for the Arena Alliance, a network of top-grossing venues that includes Madison Square Garden in New York, Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and Chicago’s United Center.

Irving Azoff is handling the booking side of Arena Alliance and the first tour under the Oak View Group banner will be Bon Jovi, who signed with Azoff Management last year. Four underplays are planned next month at theaters in London, Toronto, New York and New Jersey to preview Bon Jovi’s new album, This House is Not For Sale, followed by an arena run in early 2017...

The OVG Board of Directors is interesting, too. Besides Leiweke and Azoff the board includes, among others, Francesca Bodie, Ray Waddell, and Paul Korzilluus. Bodie is Leiweke's daughter, and for quite a while, iirc, she directly handled Bon Jovi tour promotion for AEG Live. She was also the point person for bringing the Toronto partners together with JBJ. Waddell is a writer for Billboard who co-authored the THINFS book.

OVG also recently purchased Pollstar, which effectively blows any "top tour" rankings and such information, as far as I'm concerned, I don't see how any numbers they present could possibly be perceived as objective now.

Oak View Group has acquired Pollstar, the long-running publication covering the concert and ticketing industries, cofounders Tim Leiweke and Irving Azoff announced at the company’s inaugural Venues Now conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday (July 12). Through the acquisition, Oak View has taken ownership and operational control of Pollstar’s weekly print publication, Pollstar.com, Pollstar Pro and the Pollstar Live conference.

Founded in November 2015, Oak View Group is global advisory, development and investment company for the sports and live entertainment industries. Based in Los Angeles, the company is helmed by Leiweke, formerly CEO of AEG, and backed by Azoff MSG Entertainment. Its acquisition of Pollstar has been rumored for several months; Oak View already owns Pollstar’s main competitor in the live-entertainment field, Venues Today...

But going back to the O2, Bon Jovi could still pull it off, I guess. Maybe they'll play Staples, too, as a compromise, if Anschutz will agree to that.

Those Facebook ads are just touts guessing. Name dropping the O2 and giving a three month window and inviting you to buy at inflated odds.

It's intriguing what type of venue they play here. They could easily do a small stadium tour, the major cities less the extra ones. They could do mini festival type shows. They could do indoor dates. Would they price them too high or do too many shows? The O2 residency was a bloodbath and tickets are no cheaper these days.

Either way, I hope they pull their finger out and announce so I can decide what shows to do

I think smaller stadiums, with a fair amount of empty seats would be a sad way to go about it! They should do a packed out arena tour. However, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we do end up getting one night at the O2 in the UK and that's it...
