There is no contradiction. The overheads of taking the tour overseas far outweighs the overhead of taking it on the road in the US. That's just a fact. Bringing the whole crew, gear etc over for a short run on European dates will not make the band as much money as touring the States. It's cheaper to keep it all US based. The numbers over the Europe now would not be that much more than what they get is the US To make it a huge financial gain like it did in the past.

He knows that they can't do mammoth tours like they used to and has to pick and choose what dates they play each year. So therefore if he chooses to tour the US again instead of coming to Europe, it will almost certainly be a financial decision. I can't really knock him for that, as BJ is a business more than anything else these days, so fair enough. Doesn't make it fair to those fans that stuck by them all these years outside of the US.

They can indeed, but with that kind of attitude, whatever dwindling fan base that they have overseas will just continue to dwindle.

He did not indicate at all where the shows would be, so this melodrama about no European dates is premature. I’d be disappointed if they didn’t play the USA, but I’m not going to wring my hands in agony of not knowing. And, if they don’t, less money out of my pocket.

It seems to be the general consensus that when Jon said he had stadiums booked for "the summer", he was referring to last summer. Am I the only one who took that to mean that he had stadiums booked for summer of 2018, but scrapped the idea in favor of doing 30 shows this Spring instead?

I knew right away when Jon said 30 dates, that either North America or Europe was going to be very disappointed. To be fair to N. America though, I really wouldn't call last years tour here a full one. I went back and looked at locations from 2010-2013. In regards to 2013, there were 25 locations less last year. This includes Canada. You could say that I'm fairly spoiled though, having been to every tour since 2005 except This House. Out of their Midwest dates last year, Minnesota was the only location that could of worked for me, but didn't. There was no Iowa (where I live), Wisconsin, Kansas City, or Omaha. The first 3 being on each tour since 2005. So in my opinion, a large portion of N. America was left out last year including Charlotte which apparently may be getting a date now.

i wonder what changed jons plan about stadiums...lower offers from promoters? tickets werent released to know the demand. he seems more confident with his voice so makes me wonder...
overall i think its the right decision, he ll tour north america to gain some cash have the crew occupied, have the machine rolling but probably realised thinfs is quite old news by now and touring stadiums with it would be weird. even if there would be less dates.
i think jon wants to concetrate on this shorter scale tour and the hof induction . there will probably be some shows in london 02 but i dont think jon wants to downscale to arenas just yet. he probably thinks it would be wiser to play stadiums if he feels healthy with a new fresh album...in 1,5 year

If they don’t play over here for us in the UK, he’s probably punishing us for the album only charting at Number 5 haha.

They should do 2 shows in England, 1 in Wales, 1 in Scotland and 1 in Ireland. Surely that can’t be too much!?

They didn’t do a whole US tour by their standards. I personally got lucky that they played some Southern dates.

And, again, there is no confirmation they won’t play Europe. People are really jumping the gun on speculation when all he said was he chose not to play stadiums last summer.
