It's those who are not going that have accepted current times and take it for what it is. A shitty coverband with an awful front man...

I see no reason why both points of view can't be accepted. Some people enjoy what the band is doing today, especially in a concert environment. That's not a bad thing, imo, since I'm in no hurry to see that boat sink. It doesn't mean that they're living in the past, or that they don't have ears, just because they enjoy a live show.
By the same token, those who are critical of the band and think they (orJon) sound bad aren't necessarily living in the past just because they think the band sounded better back in the day or that they suck now. It doesn't change the fact that they are fans. Maybe they are and maybe they're not; that's their call, imo. But if there's a rule that says anybody who posts here has to be a fan, I must have missed it.
The only problem I see is when people from one side try to tell people on the other side that their opinions aren't valid. Music appreciation is subjective and the standards individual people hold for it are different. There
is no right or wrong. Yes, from a theoretical standpoint, there are generally accepted standards for what makes music "good"; but that has very little to do with what one
individual likes or thinks is good or bad.
If people would climb down off their high horses and quit judging others for not seeing the band through the same lens they do, it wouldn't matter that they disagree. It doesn't mean that others are living in the past, or have "tin ears", or that they're not "real fans", just because they don't see things the way you or I do.
