I'm not going to knock a band for touring to make money or act like this is a Bon Jovi-specific motive though. Shit, the band hasn't worked in a few years, the crew hasn't, there's gotta be a middle ground between Jon wants to line his pockets and a hurt industry's workers getting paid.
Sure there's a middle ground. But then again, if it really was about getting industry's workers back on track, barely a month of touring doesn't help them so much either.
Why I said this was a quote from Jon in an interview in 2016. Maybe the one time that answer slipped out.

SZ: Which question?
JBJ: The question was: "Why?" I told her that I was just gonna play these 20 shows. She responded: "Why?" "Cause I want to make some cash." She said: "That's a shit answer!" And thought that she was right. There has to be more to it. I really have to want it, feel the desire for something new.

SZ: So what are you doing differently now?
JBJ: I've recently played a small concert in my hometown New Jersey. Just performing a few new tracks, that was all I wanted. But something was different than before: I kept telling stories inbetween the songs. Afterwards I asked people how they liked it. Everyone was telling me: "The songs are ok, but the stories were great!" In London the same thing happened: They wanted to hear these stories. We had a completely different atmosphere this time around. I like that direction. Let's see if I can find a way that's exciting for me, but at the same time keeps the average Joe who's just there for the hits entertained.
It also might be testing waters for him in terms of whether he can survive that vocally anymore. Contrary to what he may say, I think he's well aware of the fact that he can barely carry it further. Logically, that's not what he (or anyone in his position) would say.

Interesting! Yah it's tough to say if this 15 is to see how they'd do in markets less afraid of Covid. I don't know a ton about touring finances but I think they'd make more money with more shows as the travel costs shrink when cities are closer together.

He might have realized based on how these have been selling there's no point in continuing this year. I can only imagine how much worse his voice will get next year.

I'm super torn either way. I'm pretty adamant the state of his voice isn't the reason sales are low. The public didn't start noticing shit like this until 2016 and it's not like they did enough shows for THINFS for it to effect their touring draw almost a full six years later. Lack of promo and hits, sure, I agree with that. But the little they've done is a drop in the bucket to how much the hits are played on the radio.

I think a 15-show tour just for the sake of making some money won't work. Actually it doesn't even make sense. You need a crew, a stage, PA, light, trucks, insurance, traveling, hotels...even if those 15 shows would sell out it's hard to believe they'd make lots of profit. I'd rather guess they break even at best.

Industry standard on big shows nowadays is that 80% of the income comes from 20% of the tickets, i.e. the VIP, front rows etc. So as long as they sell the expensive seats (which they do) JBJ gets his guaranteed income.

I can understand that a big stage can attract people's curiosity, but damn, I would prefer a standard stage and an interesting setlist. That would be the way. The last tours had a giant spectacular stage, but if you don't get a setlist that convinces the casual and at the same time the die hard fans, then it's no use.

Forget things like Lost Highway, We Goit Going On,We Weren't Born to Follow forget all the WAN songs, and focus on hits that work and fan rarities. Don't play Who Says in Europe, here it wasn't a success, it's a waste and people get bored.

Yeah I kind of agree. Though We've Got it...does the trick even if you don't know the song, it could easily be swapped out for a similar vibe of song that was an album cut and it'd make the diehards happier. Just throw us some bones.

Thank you for the clarification, I didn't know that.

Well, I had this feeling that Jon's voice deteriorated because of his mental health. It's so weird watching These Days in Sao Paulo 2017. Half of it it's simply shit and then when Jon notices the huge response from the audience he starts to get back to his singing around 2005.

The sad part for me, I only really love These Days. I'm not a fan of the 80s stuff but These Days + Always & Sat Nite are the reasons I'm a fan. They totally moved away from that since they returned for Crush.

I'm fine with the stuff from Crush to What About Now. I'm into it more than I'm am for the 80's stuff. Then Richie left the band, Jon decided to release a new album.

I was like "ok, this is the endgame".

Then This House Is Not For Sale came out and... I kinda liked it. Next week I started to like it more. Now, almost 4 years from that album This House Is Not For Sale is my second fav Bon Jovi album.

I'm not saying it's their second best, it's my second favorite.

Then, in 2019, Bon Jovi was about to tour in Brazil. I firmly decided that I wouldn't be there. Then Goo Goo Dolls was announced as the opening act and I started to have feelings. The Goos are my favorite band! But I was still like "NO, Jon can't sing."

I was going for a vacation in the US in October 2019 and off course I was saving money. Then the band announced a show in Curitiba.

HOLY SHIT.

My two favorite bands in my hometown. Not even in my wildest dreams I'd expect the two on same tour here. Even still, I had this feelings over Jon's voice and the issues we all know. Then my girlfriend said "you are going, otherwise you'd regret your whole life".

I went, it was great. The Goos won the audience, people didn't know them apart from Iris and Black Balloon but they are really solid with their latest album "Miracle Pill" with catchy songs that work so well live. It went way beyond my expectations.

Then Bon Jovi arrived, lots of energy. Jon praised the audience a couple of times during the show. But here's the deal, the setlist was really poor, Jon can't sing anymore and he was lip synching during segments of the songs. Something I wasn't expecting to see. But, all things considered, I had a great night and the audience seemed really satisfied with what they got in the end.

The reason I'm telling those things is, yeah 2020 sucks but I was done with Bon Jovi before but learned that still there's something for me there and I hope this is the case for you.
