I think they can fill 40 stadiums over a year. Going to many different countries will help but they still seem to have a high popularity even though they don't get much radio airplay. They managed to almost fill every night at O2 with little promotion so I'm sure they can do it.

If that number is correct, I just hope the shows will be properly distributed across the whole European continent. They better not dream of selling out 6 stadiums in Germany again.

I'd be really happy for fans in European countries where they haven't played in a long time...or ever!

Aloha !

40 stadiums just isn't possible unless we're talking about stadiums that hold 15.000 people and so on. Just look at the list of European countries:

1. Albania: not possible
2. Andorra: not possible
3. Austria: 1 stadium possible
4. Belarus: not possible
5. Belgium: not possible
6. Bosnia and Herzegovina: not possible
7. Bulgaria: 1 stadium possible
8. Croatia: not possible
9. Cyprus: not possible
10. Czech Republic: 1 stadium possible
11. Denmark: 1 stadium possible
12. Estonia: not possible
13. Finland: 1 stadium possible
14. France: not possible
15. Germany: 6 stadiums possible
16. Greece: 1 stadium possible
17. Hungary: 1 stadium possible
18. Iceland: not possible
19. Ireland: 1 stadium possible
20. Italy: not possible
21. Latvia: not possible
22. Liechtenstein: not possible
23. Lithuania: not possible
24. Luxembourg: not possible
25. Macedonia: not possible
26. Malta: not possible
27. Moldova: not possible
28. Monaco: not possible
29. Netherlands: 1 stadium possible
30. Norway: 1 stadium possible
31. Poland: 1 stadium possible
32. Portugal: 1 stadium possible
33. Romania: not possible
34. Russia: not possible
35. San Marino: not possible
36. Serbia and Montenegro: not possible
37. Slovakia (Slovak Republic): not possible
38. Slovenia: not possible
39. Spain: not possible
40. Sweden: not possible
41. Switzerland: 1 stadium possible
42. Turkey: 1 stadium possible
43. Ukraine: not possible
44. United Kingdom: 4 stadiums possible
45. Vatican City: not possible

There's 45 countries, yet only 24 possibilities. My personal guess is there will be around 40 dates in Europe, yet a lot of them will have the arena stage. 40 stadiums is just impossible, they were never able to do that, not even in 1995 when they were at the peak of their popularity.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Maybe some would be park venues in the vain of Central Park or MK Bowl sort of thing if they are serious about visiting other countries.
Spain not possible? Does the Bernabeau or Nou Camp not hold concerts?

I think Seb talks about "they cant fill the stadium" in that country becaouse... well... Serbia has bigger stadium then Nou Camp. But he has no clue when he thinks that they cant fill a stadium here in Croatia or in Serbia. So, just flush that list. ^^

spain, italy, ukraine, crotia, serbia, sweden, belgium, bulgaria, latvia are strong possibilities...latvia was included in the cancelled tour because of the central park show...i also believe they include russia in this category and they could easily do 2 stadiums there.maybe richie is exaggerating and they are somewhere near to 35 but i dont think he would be so wrong to mention double the shows.
why only 2 dates in japan?do you think they intent to do an full asian leg so they are holding back? maybe use these shows as promos and afterwards visit yokohama and other domes?

Maybe I should have thought that before trawling the net for european stadiums (Slow day at work again )

A quick look found these suitable stadiums which as far as I could see where currently in use and Im sure there are plenty of others:

Czech:
Name: Stadion Evžena Rošického (Strahov)
Capacity: 19,000

Norway:
Name: Ullevaal Stadion
Capacity: 25,500 seats

Greece:
name: Olympic Stadium, Athens
Capacity: 72,000 seats

Romania:
Name: Ghencea Stadion
Capacity: 28,000 seats

Portugal:
Name: Estadio da Luz (Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica)
Capacity: 65,000 seats

Switzerland:
Name: Letzigrund Zurich
Capacity: 21,000

Belgium
Name: Constant Vanden Stock Stadion, Brussels (Anderlecht)
Capacity: 28,000

Holland: Amsterdam Arena + Others

Austria:

Name: Bullen-Arena
Capacity: 18,700

Croatia:
Name: Maksimir Stadion
Capacity: 40,000 seats

Sweden:
Name: Nya Ullevi Stadion
Capacity: 43,200

Finland:
Name: Olympiastadion
Capacity: 40,000 seats

Poland:
Name: Stadion Slaski
Capacity: 50,000 seats

Turkey:
Name: BJK Inönü Stadi Besiktas
Capacity: 32,100 seats

Russia:
Name: S.M. Kirov
Capacity: 80,000

Hungary:
Name: Puskas Ferenc Stadion
Capacity: 69,000 seats

Italy: San Siro/Stadio Olympico?

Ukraine:
Name: Shakhtar Stadion
Capacity: 31,700

Cyprus:
Name: Gymnastikos Sullogos ta Pagkypria
Capacity: 23,300 seats

Belarus:
Name: Dinamo Stadion
Capacity: 42,400

Bulgaria:
Name: Stadion Georgi Asparuhov
Capacity: 29,200 seats

Georgia:
Name: Boris Paichadze National Stadium (Dinamo Stadium)
Capacity: 78,000

Slovakia:
Name: Štadión Antona Malatinského
Capacity: 18,600 seats

Armenia:
Name: Hrazdan Stadion
Capacity: 70,000

Obviously some are relatively small around the 20,000 mark and some much bigger at 70-80,000. But then, they can easily play varying stadium sizes on the tour, it all depends on what they can sell out in each country, but Im sure there are 40 stadiums capable out there, football/sports seasons depending. But for a 1-off concert for a country they havent visited for years or ever Im sure they would sell enough.

Just because they have a bigger stadium than Camp Nou doesn't mean they can fill it. Bon Jovi aren't U2. And even if they can sell out a stadium in Croatia my list still proves that there have to be at least 16 other stadium dates in order to make it to the 40 dates Richie is talking about. Yet they weren't able to sell out any stadium show in 2008 over here, apart from maybe 1 or 2.

Back in 2003 they visited Spain 2 times and had to do arena shows instead of stadium shows. And that was after the successes of It's My Life, One Wild Night and Everyday. And they weren't able to sell out a stadium in Sweden in 2001 even when It's My Life had been their biggest hit there.

Just because the venues are there doesn't mean that it's a smart move to actually play in them. The last time they played Sweden properly before visiting again was 1995. That's a gap of 7 years, yet the best they could do was selling roughly 11.000 tickets in 16.000 people venue.

I'm not saying they'll skip the countries that don't have the big stadiums, I'm just saying that when looking at Bon Jovi's popularity in Europe the past 10 years there's no way this is the right time for a stadium tour through Europe. They should've done that back in 2000/2001 during the Crush/One Wild Night tour, which is why I think they'll bring over the arena stage to Europe next year.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
