Well, he could sing them, of course, but there's no need for him to show 20,000 souls how poor his voice is when he can still get away with lots of other songs without his head exploding
Don't think they will bail out completely on the 90s, but they will probably stick it to Keep the Faith, Sleep and Saturday Night. Wouldn't suprise me if Always will make an airing at some poin, he even did it on the horrible Asian leg 2015.

But in terms of These Days, I think the days of wanting to hear songs from that album are over. Funny though, that he mentioned Something To Believe In as one of the songs he "considered" for the tour during the live stream some weeks ago. He'd probably die if he tried that one.

They have 95 songs to choose from, David says, so hopefully there will be some variety!

*hopefully* being the key word here (for the diehards).

They have tons of songs that are both easy and recognizable between the inevitable hits and the recent albums. It wouldn't make sense to go for the rarities (specially when most of them are difficult to sing properly) in the NA leg of the tour when:

1. 90% of the recent tours didn't have any rarity in the US shows save from DC
2. The easy songs from the recent albums seem more popular in the US

I don't want to rain in anybodys parade or start the boring European VS US shows debate, but it's very very improbable that Jon would decide to sing STBI on this leg because he knows 3 diehards will cheer. If he sings "Story of My Life" (easy, was a regular on the HAND tour), or "Superman Tonight" (easy, was a single) to name two songs that would fit the "album cuts that Jon can sing while boasting about how he changes the setlist every night" he will have more happy fans. Does anybody think that the regulars would appreciate his butchering of difficult obscure songs?

There will be plenty of difficult songs he just can't avoid. LOAP is still terrible and it's going to kill him every night. Always has to be there. It's a huge hit. I don't mind the TLFR version, Jon used to sell it like a pro back in the day. I'd rather have him sing comfortably and engage the audience than suffer through the songs *I* want to hear

But I know it's easy to say this because I'm not going to any show and if there's an European leg, I doubt I'd be bother to go too if Jon can't be bothered. So for now just baby steps. I think it's crazy to think about rarities when his voice is dying a slow death. Not crazy for us, one can dream, crazy for Jon to even consider them

I wonder if David will a get a lead vocal in the set, presuambly ITA. With the state of Jons current voice it might be nice for him to take 5 minutes off in the middle of the show.

Livestreaming one show is not going to hurt the sales. Past experiences say that the first shows are either shit (2013 the most recent) or awesome (I will never forget the Honolulu show from 2010, the amount of freaking out was epic) but definitively different from the rest and a little bit tentative. Probably not the kind of show they would sell, so it's a win-win

I'd settle for a snippet though. The main set will have the THINFS songs so I'm up for it. No need to hear Wanted or LOAP for the upteempth time

I don't see livestreaming hurting sales because the majority of the fan base won't be ripping the live stream to save on their own. Die hards, sure, casuals, not as much. The biggest selling point of owning the show you were just at is it's your own show.

SO TRUE.

I was at the Washington DC show in 2013, their 2nd show of the tour. They did lots of new songs (before the album was out) and the crowd was DEAD. I saw 2 others shows later in the tour and they were much better. I'm worried about that "tentativeness" tonight. But, I love the new album. I did not love WAN back then.

One wonders if shanks will get any solos, and if he'll make a hash of them like bobby. Following shanks on instagram as he is a useful source of information about the bands activities. Youget the sense he's as excited as a kid at Christmas cos he's going on tour with a rock band wheras Jon just looks bored!

Yeah, I remember those first shows where they did like 7-8 songs from WAN. Judging by videos it was like a grave yard in the arena during those songs.
But the difference this time is that most songs of THINFS are actually much better live tracks than WNA, if they pick the right ones.

The title track, Knockout, Rollercoaster, Born Again Tomorrow, God Bless This Mess, Devils In the Temple are songs that will go down with casuals if delivered right as they are upbeat, energetic and very catchy.
Compare those to I'm With You (which I love), What About Now, Army of One, What's Left of Me. No wonder those songs didn't work in a set together with Lost Highway, WLOL, WWWB, CC, ILTTT.
I guess I'm a bit impartial as the tour starts today, but if they pick the right songs from THINFS they have a pretty good chance to survive.

I'm sure it'll be a good show. Maybe not by diehard standards but I can't see it being worse than those first 2013 shows. I think most of us agree that THINFS is miles better than WAN. Plus the songs sound great live

Enjoy the show
