Guys, I swear that I'm being 100% honest ... I thought that was dreadful. To my ears, his tone is horrible and his voice is so thin and weak on the choruses and on some of the verses as well. The last chorus after the outro solo was better, it didn't sound too forced, but I really thought that was shite ... I was at Metlife 2013 and Always was much much better than this.

Just my two cents.
Hmm...I actually thought what was improved is that he sounded less thin and had a bit more power back. Far from perfect, but definitely improved and I thought he ended it very strong.

Been a while since I was on here, thought I'd check back in and see the state Jons voice was in..a few thoughts.

To us diehard fans, who have experienced his vocal problems over the past few years, yes I guess this is an improvement to be honest. However, I wouldn't go as far to say that Always performance was anything special - 'adequate' is the word I would use I guess.
I applaud Jon for going for it on night 1 of the tour, and I do expect his voice to warm up more and his breathing to improve..

However, who are we kidding - if someone was to go on Xfactor or The Voice with this vocal performance, nobody would be impressed.
We as fans, are more emotionally invested in Jon and so often are willing to cut him more slack than we really should, and we do *want* him to do well, but sadly those days of the mid 90s are over.

Like I said, the vocals are adequate, and if you added in the whole concert experience of being there in person, surrounded by 1000s of other singing fans etc then I'm pretty sure I would still enjoy this live, and wouldn't be as focused and analytical as I am sitting listening to an mp3 of the show.
The final chours right at the end was good though, finished on a high. Best part of that audio was the guitar solos/band though, lets be honest

my two cents. I skipped the BWC tour for Vocal/Richie reasons, but will be attending this tour when it rolls around to Europe as I like the new album very much

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

S'ok we can still be friends

I won't say who's right or wrong. I think his vocal performance (I'm talking about the whole show) is shaky and falls apart when he has to sing fast and project some power like in LYHOM or any recent LOAP or Runaway from Howard Stern. But what do I know, I thought KTF from Miami was excellent vocally and everybody else thought it was terrible.

I respect fans who want vocal excellence. I care about vocals of course which is why I haven't sat through a whole bootleg since the HAND tour because I didn't like how Jon sounded, no matter how perfectly he hit the notes according to most fans. I think TAALS from 2008 was the worst and less passionate version ever, it wasn't bad vocally I know, but I hated it.

Anyway, wasn't that Metlife broadcast altered? I remember some livestream from 2013 where people who where at the show complained afterwards because Always (or TD can't remember) was clearly doctored.

I'm curious. Do we have a soundboard show from 2008-2011 to compare with?

MSG 2008

And Always was also included in the Pro Shot broadcast from Hyde Park 2011.

The Circle/GH Tour was the last great moment of a live performance of this song.

Even a twat like Simon Cowell has said Always is one of the hardest rock ballads to sing.

So to those who can't wait to criticise JBJ for having a go.. **** off

In my opinion it's quite fast, I had to wait over a month to receive the audio from the Bruce Springsteen show I went. I'm not saying you're wrong because I don't know but I think everything had to be mixed again, converted and uploaded and yes maybe some pitch correction here and there but I don't know that for sure
