I fcukin' LOVE this line:

"rock music has always positioned itself cautiously on the razor-edge of the parmesan wedge"

This guy did what the author of that review you admired so much refused to do, Feet. They both took their preconceived notions about Bon Jovi to the show, but this guy actually took a look around to see if what he thought was so or not. The other author shrouded himself in his beliefs and only looked for that which confirmed his notions. I agree, there's no comparison in the writing, but which one cared enough to experience the show before he wrote his review?

Just gave this a second read.

Had really only skimmed it first time round and this time caught that the opening paragraphs - "when David told me he was going to see Bon Jovi, I was amazed" were written by the paper's editor, not the author of the article (David, presumuably).

Which in terms of writing/style sums up exactly why this is a *bad* review - it treats the reader like children, who don't know that it *is* okay to go out and enjoy a Bon Jovi show, however uncool it may be.

The actual author of the review *did* arrive with his preconceived ideas - he *knew* he was going to enjoy Bon Jovi, he just thought that all of you guys out there reading were a bit too thick to get that the show would be fun.

You and I both know that either of us could write a better review than that of the next o2 show before it has taken place.

The thing is, the bloke who wrote the review is 100% spot on!
Bon Jovi are not brilliant song writers etc. but when it comes to keeping an audience entertained for 2 1/2 hours, they're the best in the business.

It's always been cool to be a Jovi-hater, and probably for the reasons given when he compared to Aerosmith & KISS (drugs and sex). The problem is that, for many people, life is about drink, drugs and sex, and any band that promotes that is praised.

I advertised my tickets for 26th at work today. Needless to say, my boss said he'd take the tickets, but only if I paid him. Queue the comments about poodle rock etc. and then pointing out that 70% of my office are too young to know who Bon Jovi are! 2 mins later a girl in the office had bought them off me - no shame involved.

In comparison to the shit that people are writing in their reviews recently about setlists, by-the-numbers etc. this is a damn good review!

Besides being a good read - it gave me chills.

I have written many reviews over the years here - short ones - I'm not Seb LOL. And the gist of my reviews is that I attend these shows to have a good time. I enjoy the music and I love to listen to it live, outside, on a gorgeous summer night here. Yeah I can complain about the lack of rare songs sometimes but for my money - few people put on the type of stage show that Jovi does. Bruce does the same thing for me and in my book he is the only other one right now.

For me it doesn't have to be rocket science - I am an engineer - I get plenty of rocket science in my work. It does however need to be fun and musically tight which it is.

oh man - that was so good i bookmarked it

as i have been taking heat since 7th grade

i actually really enjoyed the writing style but this is obviously more a philosophical article than a stick by the numbers review.

thx for pointing it out!

That's pretty much absolutely correct. Whenever anyone asks me how I can listen to Bon Jovi as well as Tom Waits and the ****ing Mesmerising Eye, this is basically what I attempt to convey, ableit in a shorter and less thought-out fashion.
