Bon Jovi narrowly escaped serious injury this week when they were mobbed by thousands of fans at a Thailand airport. Speaking exclusively to Mayhem, the US superstars’ drummer Tico Tores described the incident as “crazy - real hysteria”.

The band were mobbed when they arrived at the airport for the South East Asian leg of their marathon ‘Keep The Faith’ world tour.

Doors were ripped off hinges as fans rushed the band, forcing Jon Bon Jovi...(to) escape danger by...hid(ing)...in a closet..for 45 minutes until police rescued him. The rest of the band fled to a private room which had been set aside for Thailand’s Prime Minister!

Said Torres: “...We were handing in our luggage when all these fans burst through into the building. Jon jumped behind the luggage counter while we scattered to escape the fans. They were pulling our hair, pulling at clothes - they wanted a piece of us! It was like a feeding frenzy! It was pretty scary. We’re not always used to this kinda stuff, because a lot of times we fly in privately and keep things low key. This was mayhem.”

Several days later, there were further crowd disturbances at two Bon Jovi shows in Manila. The first concert was halted shortly after the band arrived onstage, when a torrential rainstorm broke out...Disappointed fans began hurling objects at the stage. Order was restored by local police...

...Adds Tico: "...The next night, the place was sold out - plus half the people from the night before busted through the gates!...(T)he National Guard was called out...But we still put on a show!

"It was kinda scary. I guess if we didn’t have barriers, they’d have torn us up...But there was no real malice on either night...”
Of course, that was twenty years ago, Tico -- we can't move that fast anymore, LOL!
