He is 51 years old by the end of this week, he has good genes but cannot fit in the skin of a guy in his early 30's anymore - people have to get a grip....Yes Bruce moves more, ok.
I think it's because Bruce is less pretending on stage - he is less putting a mask on - to fit what the people fantasy about him.
Jon pretends for years now - the same routine to please the crowd the poses smiles and winks for photos etc - so he seems to me that today he has much more hard time to be convincing - so I'd rather have him spontaneous and static better than moving and looking awkward (the dance on the pillars IS awkward to me - but the Hallelujah routine was awkward too - awkward feeling is not linked to the moves for me )
Ifit is formulaic and staged - moving or static - I will cringe.
I don't think, he was pretending but he played up to it more for the audience. I agree with you, I don't think he wants to be that guy anymore, the songs don't give off those kinds of moves, his 51 years old.

He doesn't want to be the guy who took off his shirt, gave the moves for the fans and did played up for the females in the audience and I for one, am glad!! Not just for Jon but for those fans. I know they say, it was all about the music but you could tell that was the main draw for them. The looks or moves Jon would give. Now those same female fans aren't getting them anymore, they are being disappointed. I think now they really have to like it for the music.

The main reason people are picking up on this, both us on the forum and seemingly in the press reviews too, is that JBJ's reputation as a front man was not just built on his voice. It was his charisma. He used every inch of the stage, interacted with the crowd, improvised lyrics etc.

He doesn't have a voice now that is remotely special and thus people aren't satisfied with him standing in front of a mic with his eyes closed ala Adele. Both fans and critics have come to expect and now demand, a show with the stage presence of Jon in the 80's, 90's and early 00's.

Unless he can find a way to (and i hate to say this) generate Springsteen like stage presence whilst holding a guitar this is going to become a common complaint.

I still think they needed a longer break. I have heard enough reviews around here from hard core fans that the shows are good... and that is good enough for me. I'll buy a ticket. But I am also not convinced that Jon really wants to be up on stage yet.

I saw Aerosmith a couple months ago. They reminded how a great a live rock band can be. They were not at all the same band I saw in 05/06. ST was all over the place and he sang with conviction.... I wish I could bold the last half of that last his sentence. His voice isn't what it was 20 years ago and he is not quite as fast as he use to be, but he made a connection with everyone in the arena, and that is something that has been sorely missed from Bon Jovi shows from the last 2-3 tours.

Someone at the Atlanta show said that he has lost weight and he looked pale. When she had seen him last time at the show on the Circle tour, he was tan and more bulker and this is the beginning of the tour.

I have been keeping an eye on YOUTUBE videos of the tour and yes in my humble opinion Jon seems dampened down some way, it is almost as if he is carrying an injury of some sorts......or as has been suggested he wants to turn a corner and become more springsteen like. I think (hope) things will change. Jons movement on stage, and his interaction with the crowd is a huge part of the the bands appeal, and Jon I am sure knows that as well as anyone.....Im betting youll see a big difference in the stadiums, especially the european shows!!!!

BTW Loving "WATER" played live,

Ummm, hello, he injured his leg last tour... He didn't want to have surgery, so he wore that god-awful leg/cast/sheath thing that kept him from moving around alot, and it probably still gives him grief. And, I think he used a cane too (can't remember for sure).
At 51, he still looks amazing for his age, but our bodies start to tell us, "Hey, you're not 23 anymore, take it a little easy on me!!" So he's probably listening to his doctor and body, and taking it easier on this tour so as not to totally screw his knee.

He had surgery the day after the Dublin show last tour and was moving around perfectly fine for the rest of the tour.

He did have surgery. As soon as he got the day off, he had surgery in Dublin and then went to Iceland with his family for a few days. That's why he lost the cane and leg brace after wards for the remaining shows.
