Default Rarities

In Madison this last tour they played I Get a Rush and I went crazy because I love that song, but both my brother in laws and my wife did not know the song.
They also play Radio Saved my life and once again they really didn't know it.
So for the Milwaukee show I made them a CD so they could get aquainted with some of the stuff from 100 million fans and also some older lesser known songs from Jersey and KTF and sure enough they played BOB ...
All three of them are more than casual fans and know more songs than a lot of other people, but they needed a refesher course by a superfan like me.

I was understanding you right up to the point where u mentioned BOB... these songs arent bloody rarities like the boxset songs for heavens sake! Blood on blood is on friggin New jersey, probably the 2nd most essential bon jovi album ALL fans should own anyway. Same with livin in sin, im sure there were plenty of people in the crowd when it was played recently didnt really know it which is disgracefull! maybe they dont sell NJ in walmart or McDonalds, but its still no excuse.

rant over

For me BOB is a classic, but it wasn't released as a single like Bad Medicine etc!! To be honest there were a lot of people with a weird look on there face, I on the other hand was happy as hell.
I agree with what you are saying but BOB, but for some it is a song that never made it to the top of there play lists.

Because the majority of them are not long term fans. They are casual fans who know Living On A Prayer, You Give Love A Bad Name, I'll Be There For You, Always, It's My Life, Bad Medicine and whatever new song is big(WSYCGH right now). They don't own the back catalogue. And these casual fans make up atleast 60% of the people that go to concerts. So the band will never stop playing the hits because they don't want the majority of the fans at their concerts to leave unsatisfied. Thus is it unreasonable to expect the band to cater to the minority rather than the majority.

PS: This isn't a Bon Jovi only dilemma. It's the same for every band cause casual fans want to see things they know so they can sing along. Bon Jovi is actually pretty good at adding rarities sometimes compared to other bands.

So...uhhh...how did the Japanese react? Anybody know? And, just my 2 cents, but Bon JOvi plays enough 'casual' songs in their lengthy sets that they could easily throw in 1 or 2 REALLY rare songs per set and EVERYONE in that audience would leave happy. This is indisputable.

It's funny, This Ain't A Love Song was a hit in the US and they never play this song since These Days Tour. If the casual fans don't know these songs, the band are guilty. Bed Of Roses and I'll Sleep When I Dead was not a hit and they play this song more than In These Arms, TAALS, Always and These Days ( TD was not a hit in the US but it's a nice song to play live).

Anyway, i'm excited to see the result of this song because they played with two eletric guitars (Bobby and Richie) and probably one guitar (Jon).

I thought Pearl Jam often played songs from their back catalogue and I'm pretty sure that the Barenaked Ladies play their fair share of rarities in concert.

Yah Pearl Jam's really good at that. Don't know about the Barenaked Ladies. But yah, there are exceptions to every rule.

Barenaked Ladies are GREAT when it comes to rarities and non singles. I think it was 2003, they tried to make sure every one of their songs from their back catalouge got played that tour. Not sure if/how they pulled it off but it's a neat idea.

And Gabriel, I dno if I agree. You can't blame the band if the casual fan doesn't know a certain song because the casual fan, more than likely, won't go to more than one show. The band has little to do with it.

Bed of Roses was a bigger hit in the US than TAALS. Bed of Roses is one of their Top 10 singles.
