It's a loss for the promoters, the band gets paid either way.

Need to clear up a few things that are bugging me....this is not directed at any person/people here especially - various comments in replies, not just in this thread, not just at this site, and not just presently prompted me to reply...I just get irritated by mis-information.

1] Yes...BJ did play here...in Dec. 2002...they played at 3 Rumba events [there were 6 in all : Auckland, Perth Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney] - BJ played Mel/Syd/Brisbane...they arrived in Australia on the 6th. Dec., the same day as the Adelaide Rumba...had not been able to appear at the other 3 due to a committment to a thing called Jingle Ball Eve in the States [something they had done the past previous few years]
[a lot of people o/s have the impression they played the year before, the year after, that they 'toured' here etc...no tour...3 appearances at Rumba]

2] Rumba 2002 did not sellout all it's gigs, that's true...BJ or no BJ...Austereo had staged Rumba the first time in '01 - 2 shows, one in Sydney, one in Melbourne to sellout crowds...they went too big, too quickly...would have been way better to have kept with either just Sydney/Melb in '02 or only add one other city...not 4...Austereo admitted that themselves.

3] Rumba was a POP/Dance Music event....hence Australian fans shock horror reaction...the band that declared 'we are a man band' were playing an out and out pop/dance music event...it was enough to make a person spew and if you didn't feel that way, it was enough to make you want to stick your finger down your throat and then spew.
[other artists on that bill included The Sugar Babes, Shaggy, Pink...see why aussies puked when they heard that BJ had REALLY agreed to appear!]

4] Bon Jovi were promoted as the headliners for the 3 Rumba's they appeared at...they played for roughly 40-45 mins in Melb/Brisbane...they went over time in Sydney...by a whole 10 mins.
[contrary to what some people believe/think, whatever, they were not on stage for 1-2 hours...the entire time spent on stage amounted to about 140 mins...and this event did not/could not have the fc pit area...whereas The Universal Appeal Concert in 2001 did]

5] The online petition is NOT about saying. 'Oh look, we have 'x' number of signatures...now they have to come' when a number of those signatures are NOT aussies...we aren't stupid people...we realise that...the petition is the triggering point if you like, to gain attention from the powers that be, to take a look at what else we are doing, here in Oz where IT will matter.

6] There are 4 promoters here now bidding to bring BJ here on tour [as correctly stated already - might be for nothing...but this time last week there were NO promoters bidding ]

7] 2 major radio stations here are prepared to support what we are doing - one re: the online petition, the other re: a hard copy petition [the old fashioned kind] when there is confirmation of at least one gig here
[this time last week there was NO support]

8] BJ seem to insist on touring with stages the size of small suburbs and with lighting rigs that could power a small Pacific island - we have always asked why? and especially as we know it adds massively to tour costs, particularly in places like Australia [and SE-Asia] - SOLUTION - don't bring that hooplado here...not necessary - aussies could careless about all that over the top stuff...only interested in seeing the band, hearing the music...and if they are good enough, they don't need all that carry on [therefore, costs reduced]

9] Back in 2000, 2001, and part of 2003, the aussie $ was crap...especially 2000-2001...but it's not now and hasn't been for at least 12 months...it is VERY strong - so that's no longer a 'reason' that aussies accept when people tell us it's expensive

10] People tell us they are perhaps not as popular here, therefore not worth the time etc - NJ through to Crush all debuted at NO.1 here...pretty good strike rate I'd say...and I don't think there are too many other places that can say that about consecutive BJ albums...perhaps Japan? The bands chart history in Australia is pretty impressive - 'specially given that there are only about 20 million of us and the band haven't toured here in support of an album since These Days

11] The aussies have adopted the 'surrender is not an option' attitude with respect to this whole thing - we know that this is, realistically, probably the last hurrah for Oz with regard to BJ playing here - all the reasons of the past are now excuses - and nothing will ever happen if we here in Oz sit on our lazy butts, complain and then do nothing

12] We are no more logistically a challenge than other places....is it further to fly here than it is to go from NJ to London, on to Japan, then back to London, then back to NJ???

If we don't get a gig, a tour...so be it...be we'll never die wondering.

I don't think they sell out on the west coast. At least not in Seattle.

Wonder if they'll be back.

To tell the truth i don't think we can convince BJ to tour in Australia.. As much as we wanted. But, keep trying guys! I signed the pertition.

I think it's just bad luck and if you're desperate enough to go to one of his concerts, fly to USA.

Best of luck!
