Here's my issue with your point and it sums up exactly what Seb was talking about (I am agreeing with Seb again... twice since the turn of the year)
You and many others can be glad that they are bringing out original material but the fact is, WE don't have to be anything at all.
The simplistic view would be to say, 'if you don't like any of their post-2000 stuff, why be here? Why bother?' There's a simple answer to that.
Some of us preferred the old stuff. This band became part of my life when I was 14 and so their songs leaked into my psyche and the next ten years were spent hanging on their every note; waiting for magazines to drop with news; taping Dial MTV to catch BOR, HG or Always. We know these guys, paired up with the right producer, working with the right song writers, can come up with gold.
We have every right to say some are settling for less when we hear TWTWMM is up there with their best work. It's not even up there with Woman In Love. That's an opinion and it's valid. Lyrically, it's a million miles away. We are not snobs and you are not idiots. You don't love the band and we don't hate them.
There's room for everyone, some people just need to stop telling everyone that just because they think this is the best album in years, every other opinion doesn't count.
My personal feeling is well documented following the show the other night but I did like the reaction of Jon to Jo Whiley's question, 'how do you know you're still relevant?'
