There's a fine line between 'wanting the band to fail' and 'expecting the band to fail'.

Don't overlook the fact that we are all fundamentally fans of the band so there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that even the most vocal members on here that never seem to like any of their recent material are genuine fans and therefore, don't WANT to see them fail at all.

It is undeniable that the people who are not huge fans of post-2000 releases have a right to be critical from the outset because we've almost become accustomed to the downward trend. There's never a complete loss of hope that they'll release something truly great but there's certainly a level of inevitability that it will be another disappointment - one that fans with that particular view should be free to discuss openly.

I like a handful of the new songs but there's nothing anthemic and all are pretty forgettable on the whole. Each track we've heard would fit well on Lost Highway and we all know how that was generally received. It probably also explains why so many LH songs accompanied the new ones in the Radio 2 performance - they fit well together. The only one that truly stood out as being different was 'I'm With You' which sounded so like 'Two Story Town,' it would have better suited Crush than LH. Thankfully, I quite like TST so that was one of the decent new tracks in my eyes but that's the point isn't it? The track I like the most so far resembles a 'filler' track from one of their less popular albums.

It's crazy how much better the drums sound in the mix during the soundcheck for Because We Can rather than the actual show performance version.

is it just me? Because I think Jon's vocals were OK. It sounded bad vocally because of Richie's harmonies. They were way off and out of tune on the Radio 2 show. And if he had bothered to turn up to rehersals it may not have been as bad. His vocal harmonies have been off for a while. Jon (as nasally as he can sound) gets the flack in my opinion. Richie as a solo singer is amazing. But his harmonies recently (especially Radio 2) have been dreadful.

Is it just me?

I never really picked up on any dodgy harmonies from Richie in truth. I just heard a very dodgy Jon but he was struggling with a cough to be fair to him. Several times you can see him coughing into his sleeve between lines and shaking his head to himself.

I actually hear it the other way 'round. in other words, Jon sounds flat most of the time. Richie sounds in tune which in turn makes him sound bad as he clashes with Jon's main vocals.. just my two cents.

You claim Bon Jovi are dead as songwriters and you've been pretty negative for the past 18 months that i've been active on this board (and i'm not having a go at you for it - you're entitled as a fan to say what you wish).

But what baffles me - and perhaps you can clarify/enlighten me on something. Genuinely. If Bon Jovi doesn't do it for you anymore then why are you spending lots of money going to multiple dates across Europe. (dont answer "Because We Can"!) I am honestly intrigued, Seb.
mmm....as I thought. Wont answer the very question. I'll make my own assumptions up on that one then...

so is Jon really such as dorke?? In the UK, a chance to increase the fan base, put BJ back on the map a little compared to s*it we have here at the moment like Girls Aloud, One Direction etc but instead he gets pissed off, acts an arse and it clearly shows throughout the BBC performance - bad vocals, no interaction, v annoyed with Richie etc.......few days later in Germany it is all smiles, the interaction is there, he is admring Richie (or checking his pep talk worked?!) and suddenly the whole show is better, up the notches. Also the crowd seemed a lot more into it too!!

I think a lot of that performance being below par and the moods of Jon was because of the BBC and the way they went about getting the worse audience in the entire world to be right there in front of the band. Media types and people who think Living on a Prayer is all there is to Bon Jovi made the entire atmosphere so bad it just seemed to wind Jon up the wrong way and that itself manifested throughout the whole show with the band, and not to mention Jon & Richies little lovers tiff.

There's nothing wrong with Girls Aloud or One Direction. You should have picked on other groups.
