Even at the peak of their popularity and commercial success in Europe, in the mid-1990s to 2000, they never even attempted to play a bigger venue in Berlin than the Walbühne. Instead, they played Walbühne (granted, twice) in 1995 and once in 2000 while selling out stadiums with more than twice the capacity for two nights in a row in Bremen and Cologne. While you're overall argument is valid, the sales for this summer's Berlin show can be no indication for this.
They still thought they could sell out the stadium or they wouldn't have booked it. Jon even bragged about finally being able to perform there in an interview. Now they've been proven wrong. It is embarrassing.

So why attempting it now???? Berlin is not just some "Eastern Germany" city it is the capital. And it is embarassing moving to a 4times smaller venue..

What surprises me more than anything is that fans from Europe seem to be sick of the shows. If anything, idiots like me in the US should stop spending money on the same damn set lists of a show year after year. But now, it seems even Europe is.
Well I'm not the type of guy who won't spend money (even if it's a waste) to see the same set, but I'm just talking objectively

Yes he was at a promo stunt in Berlin ! Even more embarassing now. Nothing being "Blown out of proportion". I guess in the UK they have a hard time as well. In 1995 they sold out Wembley three times. Now they don't even bother booking WS.

To be fair, the non-playing of Wembley is still Jon sulking over the 2006 debacle. They could no doubt have tried to do it this tour, and it would have struggled for sure, although Wembley concerts tend to have Level 1 + Standing lumped in together so they could have fudged it to a degree.

I wish they would have played Wembley instead of Twickenham in '08 and Hyde Park in '11. They'd have no chance now unless after a long absence and more reasonable prices/a massive selling album.

At least with Hyde Park/Slane they are fields, so there wont be empty seats they'll just possibly allocate less of the field or adjust the layout accordingly.

But whatever way you cut it, this venue change is massively embarrassing.

It does not matter whether its the capital or not, they never were very popular over there.

I agree, it was a stupid idea to book the Olympic Stadium. However, this is old news as a bunch of Germans (including bonjovi90 and myself among others) have been very critical of the band's ability to sell out the Olympic Stadium ever since the venues were announced months ago.

It is not embarrassing either. It just goes to show the rather high level of incompetence among the band's management team. But we have known that for a while now, haven't we?
