Dont be so hypocritical,i dont care what they play.As far as im concerned all their songs are great.
Jbj will basically play what he thinks are the hits for the masses,In Sydney 2008 they played who says you cant go home and the crowd were so dead. This song was a huge let down, the audience was the best i have ever seen at a bon jovi show and when they played this and radio saved my life tonight the crowd just died.
So, while there's quite a few people that want to hear songs from these days, and thats me included,80 per cent or so want to hear the hits.I can fully understand jon wanting a crowd thats going crazy instead of a few people getting excited at bon jovi playing a rarity.
Enjoy the shows people it could be the last time you get to see the greatest band on earth.
Don't be so hypocritical? Maybe someone ought to tell Jon that re the ticket prices. Who's gonna work for the working man, blah blah blah.

FWIW we complained about the vanilla sets last tour and somehow rarities and gems started popping up towards the end of the main North American leg and in Europe. We complained about the last album and got a much improved one. We complained about the lack of solo in Born to Follow and Richie put one in. And we complain about ticket prices because that's the only chance we'll have of making a difference, so that fans everywhere can afford to experience Bon Jovi live at a reasonable price. And a Bon Jovi song would never tell us to just sit down and shut up.

At any rate, you can appease the diehards and casual fans with just a bit more effort. How many PBPs on the last tour were like "This is boring, this is boring, this is boring, OMFG THIS IS THE GREATEST SET EVER!!!!!111" (or something along those lines )? One rare, well-performed song is all it takes to get us squealing.

Youre kidding me? A Jovi show without Prayer isnt a true Jovi show. Like someone mentioned earlier, maybe its old for diehard fans because we've heard it so many times, but for the casual Jovi/music fan, if they didnt play Prayer by the end of the show they would be like "WTH, they didnt play Livin on a Prayer ". Captain Walrus said it perfectly.

On another note, songs like WSYCGH should be played in N. America, but places like Australia where it didnt even chart dont need to hear it.

Most people have hit the nail on the head here - only 2-3 rarities per show is needed to keep us all happy. Mix that with the 6 or so songs that need to be played to keep the casual fans happy, plus 6 or so new tracks, plus the songs which get played here and there, I think it's very easy to keep everyone happy.

Side note - I dont think Ill Sleep When Im Dead is a song which MUST be played at every show.

I think, while everyone makes good points, especially that Bon Jovi could 'train' their audiences to appreciate songs like Dry County or Hey God, I also think this idea they don't have to play the hits is completely silly. I know in America at least, the average person going to a Jovi concert probably has only heard the big singles. Might not even own an album. This idea of it being okay to not play Prayer would be silly; that's why 95% of the crowd is there.

And while I agree with anyone who says American audiences suck compared to Europe, don't try and pretend it's any different over there with respect to having to play the hits. Just look at how the press reacted negatively to the band playing only the acoustic version of Prayer at the radio show the other day.

I think a lot of the European shows last tour pretty much showed what's needed to keep everyone happy. All it took was the return of Always with the occasional Hey God/Dry County and some other fan favorite thrown in to make this place go apeshit.

Whatever happens with the set lists for the Circle tour we will all be waiting for that first set list to come through, hoping for a great set as we always do.

Always, as mentioned before returned to the set on the LH tour with a great response from the crowd as you would expect. This song has to stay and it was a huge hit for the band. They have enough other ballads to include and rotate too.

I just want to see the same effort as we saw in the 2nd half of the LH tour, the difference from those Japan shows to the Europe shows was staggering IMO.

The only thing about Always is the vocals. It would definately be a hard song to sing. Maybe that's why it took so long for it to return to setlists.

Haha hey I dont mind it either. Im just saying as far as the hits go (Prayer, Bad Name etc etc), Ill Sleep When Im Dead isnt one of them so it doesnt NEED a spot in every show to keep people happy.

Well I didn't get a bit more inderstanding for the setlists. Just the same old crap JON has been saying for years.

They have 25 years of songs, tons of hits that die hards, casual fans and everybody in between know. So why the same old at every show? A casual fan will not run if 1 or 2 rare songs are played at every show. Might even make them into die hards, if they see Jovi is more then just the same old songs.

Even the end of every show is basically the same songs. How many years have they been doing Shout at the end of every show?

Sleep When I'm Dead is not a hit nor even a song that most casual fans know. It is also not a hit with many die hards, including this one. So many songs that casual know better and die hards like better then this one, so put something new in there for all.

Shout is the only reason I put up with Bad Medicine live, I love that part. Never did understand the hate for it.

LOL, just tired of it.

Bad Medicine I get tired of it to. But I have some found memories of my Niece and I back in the day singing that song, after having a few. Lived in a tiny town, in the middle of nowhere, that had 1 store. We use to go buy more to drink and sing that song in the store at the top of our lungs. Neither of us can even carry a tune, so it was bad. The town thought we were nuts and labled me the town drunk.

A BJ show with PRAYER is unthinkable - especially as with every large tour he will have attracted a lot of newbies or casuals who just want to see the big hits.
