Aloha !

Another totally expected mailed in performance of Bon Jovi. Easy money there, totally uninteresting from a musical point of view. Really don't understand why any fan would bother going to these shows unless it's in your backyard or something.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Default Greenbrier

Greetings, everyone.

New person, here. I thought some may like to hear from someone who was at the Greenbrier performance last evening. I'm going to avoid the West Virginia stereotypes - one can certainly make their own mind up on that aspect. The concert started a full 45 minutes late. The band was ready on time, but the concert organizers held up the start because, as an official told the crowd over the public address system, they were waiting for "everyone to get there." I'm certain that what happened was a fairly large group of corporate types who were shuttled to the venue from the corresponding golf tournament had not arrived there. These folks sat up front, near the stage in an unfortunate "VIP" section. You know the type - golf shirt, Titleist visor, concho belt. Bon Jovi fans? From what I witnessed, no; not at all. They were there to see and be seen.

Anyway, I felt this really put Jon Bon Jovi behind the 8-ball to start the concert. People were upset that it was starting late, it was incredibly hot and humid, and there was an understandable "sapping" of energy. The guy is certainly a skilled frontman, but it took him until, maybe, the fifth song to win the crowd. It was a struggle, and those of us who have seen this band over the years could tell just by facial expressions between he and Sambora that they knew they had their work cut out for them.

Someone mentioned earlier that they didn't know why fans would go to a "one off" concert such as this. The sentiment is not without merit. For me, its just something that my wife and I like to do...just how we spend some of our recreational time and money.

I don't think I have ever seen a more constructive first post from anyone on this board. Welcome. Thanks for the review.

Yeah, that was me.

It's not so much that I don't get why people would go to one off shows, but Bon Jovi's one off shows are no longer filled with songs that represent their career. It's mostly songs Jon can sleepwalk himself through. There's the occasional semi rare cut in every set (Electric Sat. Night in this case) but that's about it.

Yet I read fans travel from overseas or from the other side from America for a show of which they know beforehand Jon will mail it in. It's like ordering an expensive dinner of which you know beforehand will only be alright. I don't get that. I've travelled a fair share for Bon Jovi but I've never wanted to do a show of which I knew beforehand it'd only be ok at best.

As for your first post, Panda's right. Very nice to read an insightful post as a first post as opposed to a "you suck you're not a real fan yada yada" rant. Welcome.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Clip of Prayer.

Yeah, it's not an exciting setlist, but I don't really care. It's a one-off show. There's no chance of even a whiff of rare tunes. I'm sure everybody there had a good time.

Predictable show but just wonder if they are trying out some song positions for the next tour- moving Wanted up the order and having Sleep as the penultimate song.

Wanted will work wherever. Sleep in its current live form we not work as an almost-closer.
