Default Boardwalk Hall wristband system

Voice of the People
I recently used the Boardwalk Hall's "bracelet system" for tickets for Bon Jovi. I went on Tuesday around 11 a.m. for my wristband. Then on Saturday, I went and was lined up according to the number on the wristband. My 9-year-old son and I were No. 5 in line, and we were so excited.

Then someone came with a box of numbers and had the first man in line pick one. Then anyone with a number in front of that number had to go to the end of the line! We were now No. 55, and we were so upset.

Why bother getting the wrist bands? We could have just gone on Saturday and taken our chances for tickets and bought better seats. We wound up on the 305 upper level, when a large block of lower seats had been available.

It's my son's first concert. I hope he'll be able to see Bon Jovi.

I really don't understand why they make this unfair lottery system in America. Nobody can tell me that it is fair that people who wait there for hours or even camp out can not buy their tickets first. Why do they do this nonsense? Everywhere else it's first come first serve. No matter what.

I've gotta say it sounds like a pretty stupid system. It defeats the point of first come first served - which is the fairest way of doing it.

I suppose it does rule out potential line cutting etc.. though.

I don't understand it myself. What happened to the good old days of first come, first served?

Sounds like one unfair way of doing things to me. Hope you son does indeed enjoy his first BJ concert though.

The reason for something like this has a lot to do with scalping. I live in NY and many major on sales are done this way. If it was first come, first serve at ticketmaster outlets, scalpers would have a field day. All they would have to do is recruit a bunch of people to stand on line and tie up all of the first spots. As is, they have many people in line, but with a random system, it makes it difficult for them.
