bj's popularity in japan has declined but no other internationai artist plays bigger venues to more people or goes there as often. they have obviously overtour japan during all their career and the reason for the fewer shows of course is the declining demand, on the other hand i believe they have realise that its a market they should give a rest in a way and come back in the future. not the stones not u2 noone is more popular there, and i think they could add a couple of dates in yokohama and other places and play there in half full stadiums.what i m trying to say is that i dont think its such a big deal and after some years with a nice single or album they will play the domes again and the placed will be full...(the lack of promo in combination with the whole idea of revisiting forgotten markets like south america, australia, asia played their role as well)
saying lost highway tour was a failure is a joke, i ve been to both shows in london, they were half full, or half empty as some of you will say, but the tour as a whole was a success no matter what, especially being so close after the have a nice day tour, for me the lowest point for the lost highway tour was the 10 night prudential stand, were the band was below average imo.
i realise the whole critising the band is part of being a big fan but sometimes i feel the need to defend them, its like the glass is always half empty and never half full.

Sorry. I realise joking/sarcasm doesn't come across well on the internet. I was merely joking.

Please don't quote our resident PITA when he shows up. As soon as we find that he's back, we ban him and delete his posts. We don't have time to go through and edit any posts that quoted him, though. That takes a ton of time. So please just ignore him. The posts will be made to disappear!

EDIT - Good-bye, superstoopid. I must say, that was one of my favorites. So descriptive of the "man" who chose it. Have a nice day.

As a matter of fact many bands are bigger there. Thos ebands however decide to play smaller venues and more shows, and end up playing for just as many, if not more people. The last time Eric Clapton played Japan he did 16 shows there, they all sold out meaning a total of at least 160.000 people. When Bon Jovi played Japan on the Have A Nice Day tour they did 6 shows, all in the domes, but none of them sold out.

The same counts for other bands. Sure, some bands don't visit the country as often as Bon Jovi does, but to say that Bon Jovi are bigger is just ignoring the fact that their popularity has seriously decreased. I was in class with someone from Japan and we started talking about Bon Jovi in her country. She used to be a big fan but said that all the promo talk Bon Jovi does regarding their popularity is just talk in order to make it sound like they're really big, so people think they have to rush in order to get tickets. With every tour Bon Jovi visits Japan the demand for tickets is decreasing.

The HAND tour was closer to the Bounce tour than the LH tour was to the HAND tour, so saying it came (too) soon after the HAND tour makes no sense. The tour was a success exactly because Bon Jovi visited Oslo, Helsinki, Barcelona and Denmark. Those markets made up for the lack of ticket sales in the rest of Europe. When looking at average sales per concert they didn't sell as many tickets as they used to. The LH tour was the first tour where promoters were struggling to sell tickets and even though the initial gross of the tour was high this wasn't caused by the ticket sales in Europe at all. Money wise the tour was a success, but crowd wise this would only be valid for the North American and Australian market. Japan and Europe have seriously lost interest in Bon Jovi simply because the band keeps playing the same show over and over and over again with tickets only getting more expensive.

i agree with most of the points you ve made seb, my post did nt said sth totally different, i know that bj had problems selling tickets in many european countries.
i have two objections though regarding your quotes.
first of all there may was a shorter gap between bounce and hand than between hand and lh but you must also take into account that the market is starting getting too much of bj, overexposure, its one thing having seen them a couple of time in the 00s and its another going tour after tour.
and secondly, cause you ve mentioned clapton as being more succesful during that period, i ve compared them to other big bands that tour heavily as u2-metallica-stones etc, being that said bj during the hand tour in japan played 6 domes and sold 165.000 tickets!!! the source is from an aeg advertize at the end of the tour, so they may didnt sell out but the numbers are still impressive and higher than those of clapton...apart from all these if they had decided to do smaller places-multiple nights its obvious that the tickets would be even higher considering many fans would do multiple nights!!!
that being said i know that bj's popularity is decreasing in certain places and increasing in others, sth logical.

I like your post but where did you get your figures from? I did a quick Google search but could not find the correct information to back up what you say.

I agree about the overexposure thing, but coming back every year with the same show over and over again and making it more expensive isn't helping much either.

The thing is though, Clapton could've done many more nights. There was a demand for at least 220.000 tickets but it didn't fit the tour schedule. Bon Jovi on the other hand struggled to sell tickets in Japan on the HAND tour and none of the shows were sold out. The Tokyo Dome alone has a capacity of at least 40.000, meaning that 2 shows would mean 80.000 people. Both shows had an average of 30.000 at most, enough for a second show but in no way a sell out. There was no way Bon Jovi could've done more shows, hence there only being 4 shows on the Lost Highway tour and none of those sold out either. Right now they're doing 2 shows and not even those sold out. That's a decrease of at least 100% so where does that leave Bon Jovi and their popularity compared to other artists?

Fans doing multiple nights do not make an impact on ticket sales. At most it's 500 people per night who had been there the night before.

What numbers do you mean, Russ?

Sebastiaan

they still could do multiple nights in japan but in smaller venues for the same amont of tickets maybe and in more different cities which is a big no no for bon jovi .... I don't know for you all but in france for example huge names like muse for example can tour like 6 or 8 cities but in smaller venue than just one big in paris ... that makes them reach everyone and not force the good fans who just simply cannot travel to see them ... but this way the artist value the quality of the show by working more and bon jovi is not interested in doing so ... the only market they accept smaller venues and more cities is their own country only ... it's not to be nice it's because if they didn't do so they wouldn't sell enough not enough ppl would go to one stadium on the other coast of the country

they obviously are ready to make more efforts and sacrifices for the usa market because it is much more interesting financially

I Think Bon jovi should play more concerts in japan...but in smaller Stadiums or they should moved into Arenas

here are some Locations in Japan, Bon Jovi would sell out, if thes come to many different Citys with smaller Venues:

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium...football.shtml

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium...maishima.shtml

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium...bunomiya.shtml

these were all 15 000 or 20 000 capacitiy Stadiums...with chairs on the field, they would have a concert capacity around
20 000 or 23 000....I Think Bon jovi can sell them out
