Oh yes, you are correct, RIAA's certification is for 1M units shipped versus the Soundscan numbers for 1M units sold. I'd like to see the Soundscan numbers for each of the records but I don't have access to them.

The stones album was certified platinum with just 300,000 units sold.
They overshipped that album to get a fast platinum record on purpose

That's kind of what I thought. I really didn't think it sold anywhere near 1M copies in the US.
