That would be one shitty show. People would hang themselves by their belts during it and even the strongest ones would slit their wrists by Diamond Ring.

well a pile of dead bodies beats thoses hand waves we'r subjected to during Captain Crash..

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

While I don't disagree with what has been said here there are a few other points to be made.
BJ's live show is interactive they want everyone to dance and sing, so the songs that make the audience do that are likely to stay.
In a crowd of 50 thousand the percentage of hard-core catalog savvy fans is probably 1 or 2% so while an occasional rarity pops up we are never going to get all of our personal album cuts played.
I think that the non-core song setlist varies according to the tone and feel of the "new" record at the time. In 96 the setlist changed to better fit the flow of a show featuring These Days songs. It's a record that I love but truthfully unless they go acoustic during a show most of the songs on that record don't flow very well with IML or Everyday or Misunderstood

In 2000, the setlist changed to fit in better with Crushes tone and it changed a bit again in 2003 to fit Bounces tone. If the new record fits best with KTF songs then we'll probably hear a bit more of them.
I think it matters very much to the band how a show flows and feels to them. I think Jon in particular needs to feel the songs he's singing or it doesn't come off well.
Much like they had stuff in the vaults that they didn't remember, I think it's difficult to remember all the songs you've put on albums. Here's an idea have Jon and Richie sit down and listen to their own records before a tour to remind themselves that there are songs there that they haven't played in forever and that some of them might fit in well with the tone and feel of a new record. Just a thought.

I share the same feelings with the majority. These are the only songs that absolutely can't be dropped from a BJ concert:

1. Prayer
2. Bad Name (I'm not too fond of this but it is their first #1 hit)
3. Wanted (I hate this song with a passion but hey what the hell)
4. Bad Medicine (I'm sick of this song after awhile)
5. It's My Life (comeback hit)
6. Keep The Faith (this is on the fringe... I like it a lot)

Assume we have 20 song setlist, that leaves 14 more songs.

Take one song (Runaway for example) from the debut album, that leaves 13.

Take one more from 7800, we have 12 songs left.

Take one from These Days, we have 11 songs.

Take one from Bounce, we have 10 songs. And we already have representatives from all their studio albums.

Assume they play 2 classic ballads (NSG, IBTFY, BOR, A, TAALS), we still have 8 songs left.

Take 3 songs from these classic 'semi-hits' (Blood On Blood, Just Older, Someday I'll Be Saturday Night, In These Arms, I'd Die For You, Wild In The Streets, Lay Your Hands On Me, I Believe). We have 5 songs left.

Play 1 totally rare song (I don't know, maybe something from the box set). That leaves 4 more songs. If they are supporting a new album, then those 4 can be all new songs.

That would be a good BJ concert that covers everything.

10. I'll Be There For You
11. Starting All Over Again
12. Secret Dreams
13. Radio Save My Life Tonight
14. Have A Nice Day
15. Bed Of Roses
16. Edge Of A Broken Heart
17. I'd Die For You

Although some songs do need to be heard, it is not necessary to repeat them all over again. Ofcourse, songs like Wanted, Prayer and It's My Life need to be played, however, not all the classics should be in there. For example, ex-Beatle McCartney doesn't tour that often as Bon Jovi does, but when he does he has a complete new set. Sure, he keeps a handful of songs in there that he needs to play, but half of it is different then on a previous tour.

Why can't Bon Jovi do this? They're capable of throwing in more then a handful of songs they haven't played in about 5 years (examples being Homebound Train in 2001, Hey God in 2001, Wild Is The Wind in 2001) all those songs weren't regulars, but were played every once in a while. If they'd make them regulars their setlists would be much more appreciated.

Also the same medley night after night. Shout just needs to be dropped. Sure, the crowd anticipation is great, but even the people who have visited only about 2 concerts know there's the Weeeeeeeeeeeeeell part after Bad Rx. They've become a predictable band. The beginning of their sets is always the same (Wild In The Streets, Bad Name, Prayer) the middle of the set is most of the time Faith, and the ending is Bad Rx with Shout. Yes, know they change it a bit during the tours, but you can easily guess what the set will look like next tour. For a band that claims to change the set every night, fans are expecting more. Much more instead of changing the order of the songs. Rarities should be thrown in next tour. I'm not expecting Hearts Breaking Even or I Want You, but songs they have played before and are still capable of playing.

These guys keep saying they are a great live act, but when looking at other bands they aren't that great. Just because you've got a few hits and because you can fill stadiums doesn't make you good. They should remember that a lot of people visit their shows because of the hits, and not because of the fact that they are so good. I went to the Arrow Rock Festival last summer. I saw The Scorpions, I saw Alice Cooper, I saw Judas Priest, and though the last one wasn't exactly what I liked, they all gave away a better show than Bon Jovi does night after night. They are not thát good as they claim, while they could easily re-establish themselves as one of the worlds biggest rock bands.

They play sets that contain about 20 songs:

Let's say 5 songs as the core:
Prayer, Wanted, Bad Rx., It's My Life and one big ballad: There For You/Roses or whatever.

Then you've got the songs that weren't their biggest hits, but still go down very well, like I Believe, Hey God, I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, Everyday and so on. These could be chosen in a random way, so not the same songs every night. They need 8 of them to fill the set up a bit.

They don't tour when there's no album, so they'll have to play songs from the new album, even if it suck major like it did on Crush and Bounce. If they take 5 songs from it.

Now we've got 2 songs left to be the real encore. Album tracks like Blood On Blood, Damned, Undivided, Runaway and so on.

The set is complete, contains 20 songs, and when done being this way all fans would be happy with it. Sure, there would be fans who'd be disappointed because Dry County hasn't been played, but there's more then enough to like anyway. This is possible, many bands do it like this when touring. Why can't Bon Jovi do it like this?

Or are they just being lazy and do they prefer to play the songs then can play anyway? If that's true, it's a disrespect towards the fans they claim to love so much. Doing a small tour (because the way Bon Jovi tours can not be called a world tour), cashing in and going home. Or is it a lack of guts? Is it because they don't dare to take the risk to lose the attention from the big crowd for one song? What's made Bon Jovi the predictable band they are nowadays?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Ahhhhhhhh for once Sebastian, I agree with you. Amazingly enough. LOL

I totally agree though, I have been to enough shows as has everyone here to know the set list HAS become predictable. I agree shout needs to go, I am so sick of hearing it!!!!!!!!!! Yes, They do a Good rendition of it, but they have enough of their own songs, they don't need to be doing a cover. ....period. Why not use that space for something us fans are starving for? Like Homebound Train, or Only Lonely...Dammed or Something for the Pain? I agree totally. I would love to hear some of these songs, that seem to have fallen to the wayside,. songs DIEHARDS wanna hear. We pay enough to go see them live, to get a change up every now and then. Lord knows some of us, see 5 or 6 shows a tour, and we really would like to see things shaken up a bit. I'd like to see I believe as well. Something other then the shout/bad rx combo.

I would love to see a totally different Gig this tour. I am tired of the same old same old. I wanna see more diveristy. More non hits, that those of us who keep them touring, will want to come back and see more of. I agree that the setlist is boring, shoot 99% of us can recite it! Lord knows they need to change it up.

Thomas You've never seen them live yet? Here I was thinking you had seen them a ton of times. Never knew.

Well here's too hoping you do have a great time, when you do go see them.

Would it kill Richie to put a little emotion into his guitar playing? He could change the feel of the show night to night. Does Jon have to say the SAME THING every night? How bad is it when you go to a show and you say everything he says as he says it because you've heard it so many times? I remember when he used to talk to the audience and I remember when he stopped talking so much--some fans were complaining that he "babbled" too much. I heard that it got back to him and he stopped talking as much. But I really enjoyed the stories. So, if he can listen to a few fans and stop talking like he used to, why not listen to us and change the set list around? The show doesn't have to run like a well-oiled machine to be good. They lack spontanaiety and inspiration. I don't think I'd go see Bon Jovi over and over on the same tour... they're shows have gotten too close to "if you've seen them once a tour, you've seen them enough." It's depressing. For an act that can be so great live, they're just not doing what they could. They need to go back and consult the These Days set lists from 1996 and get inspired to do something less predicatable and boring.

Becky
Wooow, Becky, I'm completely shocked! This is probably the first time you are critical. But I agree, you are right (except adoration of These Days)

Well by the time I wanted to see a show I'd missed out on the Crush and One Wild Night tours and then I planned to go to Old Trafford during the Bounce tour but an exam that day (final a-level one, not one I could have missed, lol)
