Default Bon Jovi Appeal For Bands To Open London Gigs

Bon Jovi Appeal For Bands To Open London Gigs

BON JOVI are offering aspiring musicians a once-in-a-lifetime shot at fame - they're giving up-and-coming bands the chance to open for the rock icons when they take to the stage in London this summer (10).

The Livin' On A Prayer hitmakers will perform a 12-date residency at the O2 Arena next month (Jun10) and they want new talent to warm up for them on their five opening dates.

Applicants have been invited to upload content about their band online at OpenForBonJovi.com. The information will then be judged by a panel of industry experts, including Bon Jovi's management company, to determine the five finalists.

A post on the website reads: "If you are in a band, looking for a break - then this is as good as it gets...

"We are looking for 5 fresh and promising new bands to fill the opening nights at The O2 arena... Start uploading videos and content which proves that you're good enough to open for Bon Jovi."

Entrants have until 31 May (10) to take part in the competition.

Bon Jovi kick off their O2 residency on 7 June (10) and will be supported by Kid Rock and OneRepublic on their remaining London dates.

Pretty pissed off how people going to other dates can get an established act and we get a pub band.

Even though it's a great chance for local bands to shine, I'm glad that Kid Rock will be there

That's a pretty childish comment to be honest. Ok so they may not be The Rolling Stones but every band needs a break somewhere and who knows you may end up seeing a really good one that make it and you get into. Then you can say I saw them at their breakthrough gig when they opened for Bon Jovi. I think this is one of the best things Bon Jovi have ever done on a tour. I wish I had my band still together because I'd really have a go at this. Good luck to whoever makes it through.

I dont think its a childish comment. This seems like they have got into panic mode over not being able to get a support act for the remaining dates so have come up with this. Its nothing against the band that wins it, but paying £150 a ticket it seems a botch job.

I don't think it's panic mode at all, it'd be well easy for them to get a support and I think it's more a case of "ah I can't be arsed!" (not jon personally the CEO doesn't deal with shit like this, it'll be a minion)

they did it here in Oz on the LH tour, so can't see what the fuss it about.
Great chance for a band to get themselves out there.
Remember - Bon Jovi were an opening act once too

I don't think it's a panic move at all. They have a history of doing this for opening acts dating back to the HAND tour.

Panic mode? Are you crazy? This is awesome that they do this for bands! I would LOVE them to have this contest in my neck of the woods, but I've always been in bands out of range. This is the most unselfish thing a band can do. A "pub band" may just blow your mind. This is going to make the day of a few musicians.

Doing this may be one of the coolest ideas that Jon and management has come up with....

I just think the prices that are being paid you should get a good, established act as support. Im all for bands getting their break, but ive been to gigs were for a quarter of the price ive gotten bands like The Strokes, Foo Fighters, Razorlight etc as support for other bands. A good support band is great a getting the crowd going with a couple of sing alongs and can lend greatly to the atmosphere for the main band.
