print this article email this article next story post your commentsBon Jovi can’t wait to play in Abu Dhabi next month and say they are looking forward to visiting the Middle East for the first time. The American rock band - made up of lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboard player David Bryan and drummer Tico Torres - last week announced they would be playing live at the Emirates Palace on May 20 as part of their ‘Lost Highway’ world tour.

“We’re looking forward to it… We’ve never been there and we’re very interested to come and check it out,” Torres said. “We can’t wait to see you guys.” “I believe it’s warm!” said band-mate Sambora, when asked what he knew about the UAE. So does that mean they’ll be ditching their leather trousers for beach shorts?

“Well… I do like to wear the attire of whatever country we’re in at the time,” Sambora joked, declining to confirm if that meant we might see him strumming his stuff on stage in a dish-dash. “I’d like to turn up to the gig on a camel - do you guys have camel limousines out there?” Bryan chipped in.
Joking apart, the band-mates are well aware that any big American group playing in the region may get asked about more serious issues. But, Torres explains, that’s not something they relate to anywhere they visit. “People are people,” he said. “The nice thing about music is that it’s really not political for us, and rock and roll exceeds the whole world… so we don’t bring that into the equation. We just have fun you know.
“Music is part of the spiritual side of our being and we’re just sharing that with other people around the world,” he added. “We’re just looking forward to playing a great show for people who really want to see us.” Bon Jovi will play the one-off concert in the capital before heading off for the European legs of the tour. And while their latest country-orientated album ‘Lost Highway’ will of course feature heavily, set-lists so far at the US dates have included many of their old favourites such as ‘It’s My Life’ and ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’.
Tickets for the Abu Dhabi concert are already available and selling fast on www.bonjovinow.com and will also be available from midday today on www.timeouttickets.com.
They will also be available to buy from Virgin Megastore outlets across the UAE next week

Default Superfans??!!

Hi guys,

I'm working on a project about Bon Jovi, and we're so psyched that he's playing a show in Abu Dhabi. We'd love to talk to some of the fans out there - not just the casual fan, though. We're looking for serious, die-hard Bon Jovi fanatics! We're based in New York so we're a little removed from the action, but I know there's gotta be some hardcore Jovi fans out there. If you line your wall with Bon Jovi posters, collect their rare bootlegs, or just eat, sleep, and breathe their music - or you know anyone who does - email me at JoviFanNY@hotmail.com.

Thanks!!!

PS - Sorry for the multiple postings but we want to get the word out!

Palace increases seating for Bon Jovi
Melanie Swan

Last Updated: May 20. 2008 12:50AM UAE / May 19. 2008 8:50PM GMT
Ticket prices for Bon Jovi ranged from Dh290 to Dh890 and were gone within days of going on sale, but now more places are available, online or at the venue, at Dh590 and Dh890.
ABU DHABI // The Emirates Palace hotel will host its biggest concert tonight when the US rock band Bon Jovi perform for the first time in the UAE.

The venue, which has presented top international acts including Elton John and Justin Timberlake, increased its capacity by 1,000 after the event sold out.

Ticket prices ranged from Dh290 to Dh890 and were gone within days of going on sale, but now more places are available, online or at the venue, at Dh590 and Dh890.

About 17,000 people are expected to attend.

One fan, Sarah Hayden, from Abu Dhabi, was delighted to hear more tickets would be available.

“I couldn’t get tickets but now I can actually go to the show,” she said. “I’ve been a fan of Jon Bon Jovi since I was a teenager and this will be the first time I’ve seen him live so I’m really excited. Emirates Palace is an amazing venue so this is a dream come true.”

Measures to keep concertgoers safe have been increased as night-time temperatures have recently reached 33°C. People will be able to walk through mist showers placed around the arena to cool down. The concert organiser, Mubadala, is urging people to drink plenty of water at the show, which will last for about two hours.

Four ambulances and two emergency tents will be in place in case of medical problems, a strong possibility with a large number of people packed tightly together in high temperatures. John English, of the event organisers, said: “We just want people to be safe and enjoy the concert. Every time we have an event like this, safety is our main concern.”

Jon Bon Jovi, the lead singer, was due to arrive late last night and, while he travelled from the US, his band members sampled the sights of Abu Dhabi. The guitarist, Richie Sambora, went shopping in the city’s Madinat Zayed gold souk and also went in search of a Persian carpet.

Mr English said: “They’ve been touring for 25 years but this is their first time in Abu Dhabi so they just wanted to try and see as much of the local sights and culture as they could.

“Richie has been trying to find a dishdash and has been making the most of the shopping here.”

The band will leave early tomorrow. The European leg of their tour starts on May 22 in Germany.
