And we get a proper and good show. Off all the shows in Canada not one has actually been a bad show, even despite them having a very vanilla setlist.

I'm glad you're enjoying the shows but for me, the performances would have to be amazing to compensate for the repetative setlists that they've been shelling out lately. Have you standards dropped or something Seb? Is this the same person who was slagging off Santa fe last month?

I think (and I'm speaking for Seb here) that what he meant was that the version of Santa Fe that was sung was boring. And I'd have to agree with him. I wanted to hear Jon belt it out just once - what he did acoustically seemed to go on forever without much variation and was boring as hell.

We both discussed that it was nice it was played but that particular version, played live, was pretty uninteresting.

But that's the thing, the performances are actually quite amazing, some of the stuff in Canada they do is better than some of the stuff they did at Giants. I've never seen Jon perform the first 10 songs of a show like he did in Toronto last night.

Yes, I'd love to get better setlists, but I used to want the rare stuff because the average songs were performed without any passion at all that only rare songs could make up for that. Nowadays the standard Bad Name and Born To Be My Baby, in contrary to the Bounce and HAND tours, sound good again. They're fun and Jon doesn't sound shit on them like he used to do. Yeah, I'd love to get better setlists and obviously think they can improve them a lot, but so far I'm not complaining, apart from the tickets being way overpriced. But 2 rare songs aren't going to make me change my mind about that either.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Fair enough, its like weve always said you can't judge a show on setlist alone. For the last night at the o2, they opened up the encore with HAND until that point it was the worst show i'd seen in along time. Felt like walking out. Then came a couple of TD songs and everyone forgot the medicore show and went away happy.

I guess I find it very hard to seperate one perfomance of Bad Name from another. In fact on this tour after the opening song is played, I tend to lose interest in the first few songs, thats the part of the set I want changed the most.

Kathleen, I do agree looking back that Santa Fe was a little flat, still love it though. I guess the wow moment of when its played makes you a little biased

I would have to agree. It great to hear it the one time... but without throwing in any dynamics at any point. It would drag and quickly become dreaded as a regular in setlists. In that format, a verse and chorus at most would be sufficient.

I still say that the fact it was played may signal Jon pursuing giving it the proper treatment sometime/somewhere such as at a show similar to the fanclub show.

Exactly. It got so habitual the last decade I think we all forgot or gave up on the possibility of a return to the times when no matter what songs they did, they got you into it. Like you said, on the Bounce tour..nothing about the standards did anything for me. It was all about the new songs and the fact I had a pretty good seat. Contrast that with this tour and I'm loving Bad Medicine.. a song I never cared for to begin with.

Glad they are delivering in this manner for you. This kind of vindication has been long overdue.

I totally agree. Sure, we all would love to hear some rare gems every once in a while, but lately Jon has given more passion into the standard songs. Prayer, Always, and Bad Name have sounded the best they have in years. I'm not gonna settle for vanilla sets forever, but the standards just sound better as of late (except for WWBTF, which sucks live in any context).

I saw it in Fargo. I guess I worded that wrong. What I meant to say was that it's not as good live as it is on the album. I just think that the key change lower doesn't work as well on this song as it does on other songs. Jon probably could handle singing the vocals on pitch with the album, (considering he's only a year older than what he was when in studio, and his voice is awesome now.) And he doesn't need to play acoustic guitar on the song. I love the song, it's awesome. It is one of my favorites. I just think it loses its magic live.
