BON JOVI KICKS OFF "HAVE A NICE DAY WORLD TOUR" TO SOLD-OUT CROWDS
November 9, 2005, Chicago, IL - Bon Jovi has embarked on what is becoming one of the band's biggest tours ever. They rolled into Chicago with the Have A Nice Day World Tour for two sold-out shows over the weekend. Since announcing the tour in September, the number of concerts has been doubled to accommodate tremendous fan demand, nearly 1 million tickets have been sold and a string of shows across North America are already at-capacity.
The first date on the tour, in Des Moines, Iowa, last week set an attendance record at the Wells Fargo Arena and in addition to Chicago, the band will play multiple sold-out nights in Boston, Montreal, Philadelphia, Detroit, Washington DC plus four concerts in Toronto and six shows in the New York metropolitan area. Ticket sales for the band's European stadium tour this Spring are just as strong and the New Jersey natives will be the first band to play at the new Wembly Stadium in London in June 2006.
"Bon Jovi has, once again, proven to be one of the most enduring brands in the music industry," said Randy Phillips, President and CEO of AEG-LIVE. "The success of this tour has gone beyond our most optimistic projections while the "Have A Nice Day" album shows a resiliency that is becoming all too rare for major, multi-night arena attractions. Concerts West / AEG LIVE is humbled by the enormity of this achievement and the honor of being on the Bon Jovi team." Bon Jovi tour dates were announced on the heels of the tremendous success of their 9th studio album release, titled Have A Nice Day. In its first week in stores, the album sold 201,881 units in the US a career high first-weeks sales figure - and debuted at #1 in Japan, Australia, Holland, Austria, Germany and Canada.
In the spirit of sharing their success with up-and-coming artists trying to break through, Bon Jovi has also announced their "Have A Nice Gig" contest. Kicking off on November 2nd and running through December 22nd, twenty-four unsigned, regional bands in seventeen tour markets across the country will get the opportunity to open for Bon Jovi. The grand-prize winning band, determined by Bon Jovi fans - and the band themselves will open for Bon Jovi at Giants Stadium next summer and receive a demo deal.
The crowd favorite "Who Says You Cant Go Home," is the second single from Have a Nice Day. The album contains two versions of the track, one of which is a country duet with Sugarlands Jennifer Nettles. Bon Jovi and Nettles will perform the song live on the CMA Awards live at Madison Square Garden on November 15.
