Default Bon Jovi O2 Radio idea

Greetings all.

I produce and present on a national bbc radio station and have been 'promised' some time with the band when their back in the UK for the 02 residency, it was originally supposed to be around the Superman release but we all know what happened there...

I'd rather it wasn't just another straight interview and was going to pitch some kind of behind the scenes/backstage style 'feature' at the 02. I know the recent documentary didn't really tick all the boxes (if any?) for quite a lot of fans so was wondering what you'd like to see, well hear as it's for radio, from the band/crew/etc in this kind of environment?

Would be great if you could help!

Happy Easter!

J

I would like to hear an honest an open reason as to why hardly any These Days songs are played in Europe, even though the album was a big seller, especially in the UK.

And don't let Jon or anyone else get away with the answer "There's so many hits we have and we try to please the most people and we can't play everything" because that's the bullshit answer Jon always gives when he's asked to play requests.

The singles from These Days were bigger hits and are better known than most album cuts like Just Older, Captain Crash, Complicated and Last Man Standing, yet he seems to have no problem with playing them. If you include that in your question you might get an honest answer. If not, you'll just get the same old answer we've been hearing for over 10 years now.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Ask them why, since they have up to 90 songs 'rehearsed and ready to go' they have so far only played around 30 of them.

And please bring up These Days as a FAN FAVOURITE ALBUM as much as possible. I agree with the others, this matters most to most people who are big fans.

Default set list

The biggest question has to be about the setlists. Why make such a fuss of rehearsing 100 songs and publically stating that the fans were going to see rarities this tour for the set lists to go static very early on.

I feel their live shows are divisive and breed annoyance amongst the fans as you may be lucky and get 'only lonely' or some other rare song but then you might not - I would like to know why they do that because it doesn't help them at all. Some consistency with the rarities is needed.

people are so ungrateful!

first time i've been on the boards in a while, only to find so many setlist complaints from european fans!

does nobody remember what happened on the LH tour???

USA got pretty standard setlists & then germany and england got absolutely unreal ones.

It's a two year world tour, if they play all 100 tracks in the first 3 months, there aren't any surprises left!

first time they played Lay your hands on me & Something for the pain this tour, people were loving it & now people don't even seem to care...

Yeah, why did they start with playing versatile setlists, and then went static after a short while, while a bunch of gems gets ignored or played just once in a while - or once a tour!!! One song per show like Dry County, Hey God, One Wild Night, This Ain't A Love Song, I'd Die For You, Wild Is The Wind, Something To Believe In, Tokyo Road, I Believe, Damned, Shot Through The Heart... would make every die hard in the audience really happy. Why don't they play these songs as much as they deserve it?
And his excuse of some of those songs being to high for him to sing isn't the final answer, when you consider how he could pull off "Always" in recent years.

And I'd really like to know what the band THINKS of "These Days", the album. Because back then in 1995/96 they were really proud of it and almost played the whole album live, and now you can consider yourself lucky if they play one song from it at the show you attend. The album was really really BIG here in Europe, and everyone I know says it's his/her favourite album, or at least very good.

I'm not saying the current shows aren't good, from all I've heard they're phenomenal. But something has happened which hasn't happened since 1990 to this extent: The setlists have become absolutely predictable, plus they keep on repeating the same songs over and over rather then trying something else.
Yes, I respect them for "Homebound Train" and "Something For The Pain", but have you seen the first setlists? Compared to them the current ones are a total letdown - I'm talking only about setlists, not the actual show.
But even in the US are many diehards who want to hear the songs that Europe usually gets, and the thing is, one or two of them per show doesn't turn the casuals down, if performed with passion.

I'm still being pretty excited to see them, of course, no matter what the setlist will be, it'll be great!

Simon, yeah i agree with what you're saying; there are normally two or three different versions of the same setlist, so america usually gets a slightly different setlist form every night whereas the last few weeks have been very, very similar.

I also felt bad for the die hards in america as you mentioned!
