Default Bon Jovi Planning to Perform Rarities on 'Circle' Tour

Well, here is our pre-tour promise kind of like we've rehearsed 73 songs and we are gonna play them all type thing. Just a few problems: someone needs to tell Richie "Keep The Faith" is not a rarity and tell Jon that it's not "Always" that needs to go nor is The Cirlce gonna go over live in it's entirety any better than Lost Highway. Anyway, here's the article:

After 25 years of crafting rock anthems and stadium hits, Bon Jovi could fill a two-hour show with nothing but the obvious choices. But Jon Bon Jovi tells Spinner when the group hits the road this February in support of their new album, 'The Circle,' things might be different this time.

"I had a conversation just the other night with a reporter who came to a television broadcast and her thinking was maybe [play] some more of the obscure tracks, maybe some more of these album tracks you either play when you're in Europe or you don't play that often," he says. " I said, 'Gee, aren't I supposed to satisfy the needs and not be the selfish artist who wants to play these album tracks because you paid to hear me sing all the ones you hear on the radio, the hits?' And she's saying, 'No, you guys have also been around so long that most people in this audience have in fact seen you a bunch of times. So feel free -- believe me they know how 'Bad Name,' 'Prayer' and 'Wanted' go. You don't have to do them all the time every day.'"

That conversation obviously resonated with the frontman. "Granted, we're always gonna want to do those ones, but what if we don't play 'Always' and that was a monster hit ballad? What if you don't feel like playing ballads that night, so you don't do any of them? I think we've earned the right to have that freedom," he says.

That freedom could stretch to 'The Circle.' "This new album, I feel like it could be a great opportunity to do the album in its entirety. We've done that before when we did 'Lost Highway.' Because of the Nashville influence, it allows for that," he says. "The [new songs] were just made to be played in a stadium venue."

Guitarist Richie Sambora says whatever rarities his frontman wants to bust out, the band will be ready. "Jon's the quarterback, he's gonna call the set list and there are gonna be audibles and that happens all the time," Sambora says. "A lot of times we'll be sitting in the dressing room and Jon will say, 'Hey, let's just pick this song up, play 'These Days' or 'Keep the Faith' or something like that that we haven't played in 10 years.' Then we'll learn it on the spot, and take it on the stage that evening and play it. It's really gonna depend on the feeling of where we're at and what's going on."

It's just the 5th time Jon is saying this, and even after 10 years he still doesn't get it, or just doesn't want to get it and make up false stories about Always etcetera. They haven't done the big ballads for years, it's only last tour that they picked up Always and he's already making excuses not to play the song.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Yeah, and the setlists will look different every night too. More of the same old he's promised before every tour since at least 2001. I don't know who he thinks he's kidding anymore. Anyone who would actually spend the time to read that article knows he's full of shit.

No way does The Circle get played in it's entirety. I'll be shocked to hear Love's The Only Rule live. It's a good song, and Jon insists on not playing those live for some reason. Plus, it'd be too tough for him to hit the notes.

I think he really thinks that playing an album no one has bought will work, because he thinks this album has more uptempo songs. He talks all about how an album has an a-side and a b-side yet he fails to understand why playing a certain album completely would work and why another album wouldn't. It didn't work with Lost Highway while that one was very successful in America, yet he think it will work with an album that's been the least succesful album since Fahrenheit.

By the time the tour starts everyone's forgotten about the Circle and he'll be promoting an album no one apart from the die hards have bought. The casual fan won't have this album, and won't know any songs (as in singles) from it either because they've all tanked. Way to go with your full album concept thoughts, Jon.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

My guess is as much as we moan about it now, some of the first dates on the tour will get the album in it's entirety similar to the shows in Newark in 2007. After a few tries, the idea will be dropped for all the moaning casual fans do, the bitching we do and the absolute lulls that will exist during most of the time they are performing The Circle.

Oh and if Jon doesn't really mix the setlist up and play some rarities and make the nights memorable, they are gonna fall flat on their faces at the O2 if they already haven't over the ticket prices and the lack of sellouts over that.

My thoughts exactly! Especially about the 02 part - 15-20 or so performances of the same show every night would be catastrophic.

That article just kills me, btw

I can't believe Jon has the cheek to say that.

The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3
