jovi75: I pretty much agree with you in all you've said. But I also think that These Days ended an era for the band. A record like These Days is usualy released in the end of an artist 's carreer. When in 98 (i think) the Smashing Pumking released Adore I thought that was their finest album, but it led to the band's end. All the intimate, more introspective records (like These Days) are not meant to sell, and artists who are used to sell a lot of records have dificulties understanding that. The point is: Jon and Richie could not go any further... These Days was the end of a road, what else could they do in that direction??? I'm sure nothing better than TD. So they took a break, and Jon tried new things... DA was a very positive album cause it opened perspectives for new things. Richie made a half intimate, half fun record. And the merge of those 2 albums made Crush. It was new, for the better or for the worse... they were taking risks. Each track from Crush is different from all the others. With Bounce they made a half Rocking, half melodic record. I still think Bounce could have less ballads, but they decided this way....
My fav fav album from all times is These Days and god damn it, I'd love to have a new fav record , but I highly doubt it, since the band will persue new directions and never stop. And that's great cause they won't be like those acts who put out the same record every year. My fav tracks are in These Days , I can even say the album is not a collection of songs, but a story writen in chapters, each chapter is a song, all of them are conected. The one thing I wouldn't like was that they would try to release the same thing that worked in the past... and even if they follow directions that are not of my taste, I'll have to respect them, and give them credit for being honest to what they feel. I think they will always be unique on that honesty with themselves, and that's why they are my heroes....
